T6.1 new order delays

I’ve rejoined the queue at the back again. Local dealers were just rank amateurs. Five weeks in and I’d only just got my confirmation of order, which was wrong. Apparently they’d made the assumption that I’d want one thing over another, plus missed a few options off entirely. When pushed seemingly my list of requirements on a spreadsheet was confusing and the second attempt at the list also wasn’t to my requested spec which is apparently impossible - specifically impossible here is the heated bench seat. If anyone can help me determine whether or not the option is possible please, as I’ve spoken to a different dealer who assured me it is, and sent me the screen shot, but I can’t see if selecting heated seat shifts me to a pair of captains chairs or not (the suggestion from dealer 1) I’ve seen a 71 plate 6.1 with a heated bench in the flesh, but appreciate spec and availability changes… (I want an arm rest on the drivers seat too, not sure if this is std on the highline?)

I am looking for a lesser spec (but still highline) panel van to bridge the gap, as being as I’ve ordered a 204 4Motion panel van with all of the options, I don’t think I’ll see it this year.
I’ve ordered a heated bench seat. No problem from the dealer. It must be a thing because people have issues having a swivel bench seat with heating pad.

Had a call from the dealer earlier - JCB Eurovans Crawley - Van is now status 20 - week 33 - Dealer reckons I'll see it in late September. I ordered in November 2021 so 10 months isn't a terrible wait if it happens. The order was pretty standard SWB Sportline, I added very few extras - Carpet in cab, arm rest, washer fluid level indicator, metallic paint and rear window (with wash wipe).

@Stu90, my journey is similar to yours, albeit I'm 2 months behind you (14 months on the 20th). I too have never had a build week assigned and I too get the pointless "no news" email from Autoebid every month.

Like you, I've ordered a high spec Kombi Highline LWB with DSG (150PS though, without 4motion), but my theory is that, rather than the van spec being the issue, it's the dealers we've chosen. I reckon that the dealers who offer the biggest discount via Autoebid don't have the allocation to satisfy the volume of sales this generates. I think it's this overselling of allocation that is exacerbating our delays.

I ordered through the JCB Van Centre in Ashford, Kent. How about you?
Hi. Yep same dealer. I was told some time back that my order only had 4 or 5 in front of it. But did not mean a great deal. The wait goes on. and on and on.
The whole idea of allocations seems very odd if the order has got to the factory then would it just make sense to build it. Do other industries work like that?

Is that how it works? Dealers only get a set allocation of vans per month? You’d like to think that once you place the order it gets sent to VW and then just on a big list with orders from every other dealer. The dealership acting as an intermediary between the customer and VW.

That’s my hope anyway I’ve also ordered through JCB Ashford

You've hit the nail on the head there Bav. Selling vans at larger discount but they don't have the allocation to get them all through.
They do come in the end though, but only after a ridiculous wait.

My advice to anyone buying one is the get price protection in writing. Otherwise they'll sting you for whatever price it is when it turns up over a year or more later.

Dunno about other industries mate, but I've read Ollie at Bognor Motors refer to VW reducing dealer allocations, so allocations are deffo a thing.

I've been watching this thread for quite a while (since before I placed my order), trying to make sense of the factors at play. IMO there are too many exceptions to place the blame on any particular option or base van characteristic, but allocations seem to make sense - especially given how many times JCB Ashford and Autoebid are involved when people have suffered/ are suffering ludicrous delays.

My order was with Autoebid and the supplying dealer is Listers in Droitwich.

Ordered 1st October 2021 and I collect it next week. T30 SWB 150 Highline. Manual with about £4-5k of options.

I was told 12 months from order to delivery when I placed the order, so they’ve managed to better that by quite a margin.

I tried to negotiate a price with two dealers locally before electing to go with Autoebid. I couldn’t get them to even come close to the price I ended up having to pay and I decided any additional delay was worth the money saved.

Given your distance from Ashford, I'm guessing you went via Autoebid (or similar) too - yes?
Yeah Autoebid as well, sounds like I’ll be lucky to see the van this year.

Got confirmation in emails that the price is protected from December last year, after reading story’s of the prices increasing by a 4k seemed like a good idea.

I’m curious, has anyone else been offered “1CS”? It’s a goodwill gesture of £200 from VW for delays endured. I’m not sure if this is from VW or the dealer, but, it can be used as a discount on the price or used to purchase VWCV parts.

Better than nothing I guess, but it hardly offsets the price increase endured!

Yes me. I wasn't aware it was called a 1CS though. I was offered it from the customer services person I was complaining too.

Although, not to put a cat amongst the pigeons but, they offered me £300. I reluctantly took it of course and put it towards the extended factory warranty. So it cost me £180 for two extra years.

Not recompense for the extra £3600 the van cost me but I wasn't getting anywhere and it was better than nothing..

You just set the new target amount. :D

At what point were you speaking to customer service? Was it pre-delivery or post?

I emailed after as I I'd recieved the emails from Karen at Autoebid and Laura in JCB Ashford, so a few weeks before delivery. Customer services were quite slow responding but I did end up having a phone conversation in which they were very apologetic regarding the whole situation but could only offer a gesture of goodwill.

I feel short changed! It seems to be par for the course in this T6.1 lottery.

I am luckier than most on this forum, I have price protection. It’s in writing and updated last week.

Listers should be calling me today with good news I hope. Everything is crossed.

first post, after a long time reading posts and learning :)

I followed up with the dealer on my order today and they replied that it's "gone confirmed" this week with an eta to them of late Aug / early Sept . They also confirmed price protection policy is removed, but can't confirm the new price until it arrives.
Mixed news I guess, plus not holding out too much hope given other people's dates having moved back.

Ordered direct from Listers at the end of Aug 21. SWB 150 DSG Highline, only a few extras (dual heated front swivel seats, LED headlights and few other bits and bobs)

Been told week after next at our dealer, only reordered in February after working at a franchise, I kinda feel guilty with everyones long waiting time and the fact now that we are hardly going to use it when it arrives. Was going to cancel and get a smaller van but caddy prices are crazy. May be the fact with our fortunate quick turn around that its a case of who you know and as said before some dealers know when they take your deposit they actually havent allocation.
