T6.1 new order delays

All new cars are going up in price at moment, Inc electric, (most have added at least 1k this summer). However I expect electric to come down as supply issues ease up and economies of scale kick in, and also if government have a rethink on subsidies, eventually to parity with petrol cars. However, don't expect any of the above to happen for at least 2-3 years, probably more.
In the long run, I expect government will prohibitively tax new diesel/petrol vehicles as it becomes clear they won't meet clean target.

The new R/Rover & G63's = 50k premiums.. others too, yes electric car prices are climbing as are the others due to increased manufacturing costs, but not attracting the premiums others are, so like me, the lads who have had the long wait, keep waiting, they wont be a be a problem, even with the small price increase.

On a side note is anyone worried about things moving towards electric and the values plummeting? Just thinking we are getting closer and closer to 2030 by the time we all get our vans!
Not too worried tbh.

It may be wishful thinking on my part, but I see so many obstacles - both political and infrastructure-related - that would (should) prevent this ill-conceived policy from being in place by 2030. IMO, the proposed ban is just virtue signalling on a monumentally stupid scale.

Also, don't forget that they're only proposing to ban the sale of new ICE vehicles, so there will still be a huge number of used ones on the roads for at least a further 10 years beyond the ban. My only slight concern here is that the government could seek to ban ICE vehicle usage altogether, prior to those vehicles becoming end-of-life - an act that would amount to economic and environmental vandalism. In this scenario, I might consider using my van as a high-velocity suppository for the PM of the day!

Yeah, I was tempted to just go and buy a converted panel van which would have cost me £10k-15k + what i'm paying. The plus side is it would have all the alloys, trims etc and I could go pick it up today but I've decided to wait it out. On top of the additional £10k I couldn't get the finance anywhere near

The other thing that I think is in all our favours, the T6.1 vans, are true VW's, the T7 will be a Ford transit collaboration, a partnership like the Amarok, one things for sure, I know I don't want a transit.. The current Transit wears a Peugeot engine dosn't it ??.

Had an Evoque for a few years from new, which had a Peugeot engine. Great engine and never gave me any trouble at all.

Since 2016, Ford have progressively replaced the Duratorq TDCi that was was jointly developed with Peugeot, with their newer Ford-developed EcoBlue ‘Panther’ range of engines.

Ford and VW are giving little away about their new jointly-developed medium van platform. Although Ford has revealed some details of the new Transit Custom they haven’t given details of engines that will be offered, even for the electric version. Ford has stated the EV version of the Transit Custom (pictured below) will have a range of up to 236 miles and will have DC fast charging but that’s about all. VW has said nothing publicly about their version (presumably it will continue to be called Transporter).

As these vans shares a common platform and will be manufactured on the same production line, it seems likely that VW’s Transporter will share a high percentage of components with Ford’s Transit Custom. Will VW use Ford-derived powerplants and transmissions in the new 2023/2024 Transporters? Who knows.

Was all set to place an order and join the back of this distinguished queue tomorrow, the mrs gets a forces discount so am saving about 11%/£5k off list. Talk of the new model has thrown me though I must say and am now in two minds whether or not to wait. Dagnabbit.

I personally wouldn't throw away the discount, you'd be stupid to if you can get those terms,as you will be quids in,& if you order a 150 Manuel panel van,it'll be here in no time, just flog it for profit. Decent colour, highline, heated seats, folding mirrors, parkin sensors, camera, convertors dream..

Yeah am going for a conversion type spec…Ascot Grey Highline LWB panel van, 150 DSG gearbox, swivel seats, 80l fuel tank, front and rear sensors, rear view camera, LED lights, folding mirrors etc. My intention is actually to convert it to a camper anyway and the plan was to keep hold of it for the next decade or so as the kids grow up. I don’t see EVs working when it comes to campervanning but also cautious about what the future holds for diesel engines really. My daily driver is a plug-in hybrid so I am clearly on the fence when it comes to this debate :D
