T6 Aftermarket Digital Instrument Cluster

according to the Technical Support, this following steps will remove the „Speed Bong “

应该是限速报警声音,试试这个办法。
当听到限速提示音响了后:按下键--按OK--下键--Ok--下键--OK--下键--OK--下键--OK--下键--OK。共6个回合就可以关闭原车仪表的限速报警了
It should be a speed limit alarm sound, try this method.

When you hear the speed limit prompt sound: press the key - press OK - down key - OK - down key - OK - down key - OK - down key - OK - down key - OK. It takes 6 rounds to turn off the speed limit alarm on the original car dashboard

Worked for me and @Jan_B aswell
Hi all

I fitted my Digital dash about 6 weeks ago. Bought through Antony and Everest-VW who has been really helpful on all the little things the dash has and can have.

I think the dash is amazing and a big improvement to the stock dash. I have even gone the next step and Bought Ottocast P3 and connected that to the dash through the HDMI which takes the capabilities to the next level. The ottocast is also connected via Bluetooth to my Halo 11. If anyone is considering this setup, i have found that if your an iPhone person, the carplay is a little tricky to get it to look like carplay. ottocast has an app called Multiplay which i found works the best.

The one issue i do have after doing a firmware update is the dreaded bong at 20mph. when i first did the dash i ensured all the settings were adjusted before removing the board and it all went well and no bong.

I have tried the following.
1. Disconnect battery for 30 sec, reconnect, lock van and wait 15min, 1 hour and even tried leaving overnight. Didnt work!
2. I tried the OK, down arrow x 6 and it gave me a bong at 20mph and a ding at 25mph!!!!. did it again and it cleared the Ding so just back to bong now at 20mph

Does anyone know of any other way to get rid of the bong short of putting the old dash back together and clearing on the original MFD.

Thanks guys
Mike

For all the messing about Mike, it would probably be quicker to pop the cluster out and re connect the MFD to clear the bong.

Do you have any pics of the cluster with the Ottocast connected? Do you have a gen 1 screen or gen 2 with carplay enabled on it?

I have gen 2 screen with exposed hdmi on the back of the cluster.

Ill go take a pic for you. The Ottocast is good but for me it takes a bit of getting used to especially with iPhone quirks but i got there with alot of help from Antony at Everest-VW

Its this bong thing that's making me go crazy and im now thinking it could be winter tyre setting rather than speed setting

Try the following: disconnect the battery and wait at least 15min before reconnecting.
I had the same issue several times and this was always the only solution. The 6-times-ok-arrow-down-thing is a waste of time (tried it several times without any success).

this is the back of rev. 1 (right side) and rev. 2 board (left side).
Rev. 2 has the hdmi-socket visible while rev. 1 needs an extra internal pcb which is installed instead of the wireless-carplay-module (although some rev. 1 boards actually do have a hdmi socket behind the little sticker, but this hdmi connection doesn't work)
The housing itself is identical between rev. 1 and rev. 2 (I broke the cable clip from my rev. 1 board to make it fit)

Not sure it would work on my Gen 1
it does, but only with the additional hdmi-board instead of the internal wireless screen casting board (some sellers have this little extra pcb included in the package, some don't).
If this is installed you can connect the ottocast P3 via hdmi to the dash and via usb (wired) to the halo. Once everything is configured and running you can either
- mirror the ottocast-screen to your halo and the dashboard
- or show your chosen app (for example navigation like maps or waze) on the dash while having another app on your halo
- or show your chosen app on the dash and get back to your original alpine-screen on your halo

It needs a bit playing around and getting-used-to but once you're in it is really a huge improvement.
With the right apps on the ottocast you can even improve the functions and look + feel to your personal preferences.

Hmmm, I don't have an HDMI port on the back of the case. Mine has wireless casting rather than carplay. It didn't come with any additional pcb but i can't remember if there's an HDMI breakout lead in the wiring loom. Mine is out of my van at the moment so I'll take a look when I get home.

One of the main reasons for buying this was to get maps in between the dials. My iPhone won't screen mirror to the dash and I have a kenwood HU and not a halo.

There is no hdmi connection in your wiring harness. If you do have the rev. 1 board (with wireless screencasting) and don't have the extra pcb (this was exactly my starting point a few weeks ago) you won't be able to connect any external android player (like the ottocast P3) via hdmi for showing maps between the dials.

Of course you can try to buy this little extra pcb from the chinese dealer (or maybe @antony.charnley can help) or - and this is what I did first before I decided to change to a rev. 2 board - you connect your Iphone wired to the usb-port which is on the end of your wiring loom (one usb port is for updating, the other one is named carplay). If you then start maps or waze on your iphone it immediatly shows the screen between the dials.
For me it was ok at first but then turned out to be not such a good solution, because the phone is always hardwired to the dash and not very comfortable for using as a telephone or checking scedules or mails and so on.
Of course I started thinking about using any old iphone model I have in the drawer at home just for navigation, but this also wasn't the right thing for me (just don't want to have a phone lying activated in the car all the time).

A mate from the german forum showed a picture of a rev. 1 board with a hdmi-socket soldered on the mainboard, but showing in the wrong direction (flat on the board instead of upright, so the socket is hidden behind the plastic housing and not reachable). If your cluster is out of the van at the moment and if you don't mind taking a look inside maybe you can confirm that this is the case. If so, there might be a chance to connect to this socket (with cutting the housing of course), but still I don't know if this socket is enabled with your current software. So it might be some kind of experiment.

Does your Kennwood Headunit have a wired usb carplay port? If so everything I wrote referring to the halo is the same with your headunit.

cool, I have a similar configuration, but with the original discover media connected to ottocast p3. I did not manage it to get a different app displayed on the digital display (v2) in comparison to the radio display, how did you do it? (sorry if the question is not enough related to the digital display) The best solution for me would be fixed carplay in the digital display (e.g. with navigation) and switching between this and other apps on the media display.....

I'll have a look and report back. 🤟

Yes thats how i did it. Black USB from halo to Ottocast then hdmi to rev 2 dash. The interesting bit i found was i used the app pre installed on the ottocast called multiplay which gives you that carplay interface.

I spent weeks looking into this and with alot of help from Antony, i finally managed to get it all working smoothly except for that stupid bong.

I routed the ottocast into the top glove box ( I have California dash) and now just need to route the black USB from the halo to it.

Originally i connected the phone simply to the Ottocast via Bluetooth but it wasn't great until i found that smart little app on ottocast which made it all possible.

if you do decide to go this route and your on the version 2 board, have halo 11 and are iphone then i think this seems to work best.

My discovery media touch screen packed up which got me into the journey of all this and hours of fitting and testing lol.

What i would say is how many people now comment on how different my t6 is internally with all the tech and digi dash.
