Tail Lights: get both Fog and Reversing bulbs illuminating

Where did you get the units, are they the Transporter HQ ones? Reason I ask is because there are some for sale on this forum, for sround £300.00. THQ wants £265.00

I bought mine off @Deaky on here who was upgrading his to smoked lenses and i paid 290.00 and with that i got full written instructions from @Pauly on how to swap them over and how to change the plugs and add the extra wire for the reversing lights so they are on both sides. I think the THQ ones are plug and go but not 100% certain on that @Tourershine has the ones from Transporter HQ i think in his van, he might be able to tell you

I'm sure this was talked about the other day (must be because it's getting dark early)

Yes, the TransporterHQ ones are plug and play, available for LED and None LED, and very bright in reverse.

Thanks for this, I'm still a bit confused. My van has a single reverse light,(non LED, I presume), and I think these are my options.
Get a THQ non LED single light, plug and play, which should be better than what I have or LED reverse on both sides with extra work required to fit them, is that correct?

I'm tempted to go for the dual reverse LED setup, depending on the work required

I think I read @Pauly can knock up a connecting cable in his loom factory.

HI @Pauly , I went for the Transport HQ rears lights (Non LED) with the thought that I would get sequential indicators and 2x reversing lights. I was wrong with the reversing lights... Could you create a connecting lead that will fix this so I can have 2x reversing lights??? The sequential indicators are very good.

Hi Y'all,
I am thinking of changing out my current rear lights for a set of LED's. Is there any way I can have both flights on together, and also the same for the reversing lights, when selected.

Yeah you just need to run a few cables from side to side. Most people go up one d-pillar and down the other.

Thanks. How many cables (2)?, what size? Where from and where to? No coding or nothing else required?

What van spec have you got - barn-door or tailgate?

And what are you changing to - OEM or aftermarket?

What are the plugs like on the aftermarket lamps you’re changing to - the same or different?

There’s a post on here on how to change out the plugs if they’re different.

Cable-wise, any left-over 5a lighting / speaker wire should be fine - just enough to go from plug to plug - so four metres max?

I haven't bought them yet. Just checking if what I want to do is feasible.

I only have a reversing light showing on the nearside on my 2017 Kombi. I assumed that the bulb was blown on the offside so removed the unit to inspect and then trotted off to my local parts supplier. They checked the computer and offered me a standard bulb like those fitted to many cars in the past. I noticed that it was not the same as the bulb fitted.
I went back home to remove the bulb in question. Whilst doing this I noticed that the bulb in the nearside was the type I had been offered but offside bulb was a small unit (about the size of my little finger) reference R435 - H21W. I bought a new similar bulb at the cost off £8.34 !!! I assume that this is a higher output bulb to illuminate the drivers' side. But when fitted it still didn't work. I resorted to looking through the forum and saw pictures posted showing the reverse lights lit and they were at the top of the unit instead of at the bottom where my nearside lights up. That was a 2016 van. Were the light units changed for 2017?

My dilemma is that I have replaced the bulb and still have no light. Has anyone any suggestions of what I should do next to locate the problem?

You only get one reversing lamp from cheepskate VW. If you want two then you’ll have to add a wire from the one that’s working to the one that’s not.

I’ve got a startline with barn doors and it has two reverse lights - about the only extra it has got!! Some people fit an LED light bar which gives considerably more light.

I have two LED reverse lights now and while they are better than the H4 headlights, they just adequate!
