Tail Lights: get both Fog and Reversing bulbs illuminating

Another thing I’ve found is VW wiring looms are very minimalist and specific. Gone are the days of old with generic wiring looms which contain the wiring used in better models!

It won’t do anything if its got no power
But if VW were cost cutting and not including the wiring why did they save more by not installing the bulb? As I said, it is a dilemma which I can't get my head around.

It sounds to me as though you have the standard tailgate halogen rear lights. If that's the case you get a reversing light on one side and a fog light on the other.

If you want two reversing lights you'll need to first upgrade your rear lights to LED and then add the additional wires to get both reversing lights and both fog lights working.

Ah, well done. I knew that there was a simple answer. Didn't consider that it was a fog light. Thanks

You can deactivate monitoring with VCDS by tweaking Byte 11 Bit 6 in 09 BCM.

Thanks... it’s a lot to shell out for an annoying dash light....
Are you taking power from the rear light feed? You could always try taking a clean supply from the fusebox for your light and using the rear light feed in a relay to switch the power when you engage reverse. Thats how my reverse camera is wired and i belive others have done additional reverse lights

@Whowhobug Try making the additional light grounding local.
It’s a Scenelight, mounted under the rear bumper on near side, being mounted very low it doesn’t dazzle drivers behind me.
Use a local dedicated earth for the Scenelight, not the same earth for reversing light / camera.

I like the suggested relay way of installing and it isn’t that much more difficult to install..... especially as I need a feed for some lights inside the rear door also. Thanks.
I’ve already installed the rear door lights and having them work off the normal interior lights isn’t that useful as they time out.
I was going to install 2 reversing lights but I’ve got one lighting up a tree in the back garden!

I did the same with the scene light in this thread. 2018 non led van. Connected to reverse light feed behind cluster and local ground. No dash error lamps.

Is that possible to convert the fog light (which i never use) in a reverse light? i would like to have two reverse lights, one each side. Thanks

You'd be better trying to get hold of some LED rear lights as these have 2 of each. There's some extra wires to run but there's plenty of info on here as it's a popular upgrade. Another option would be an extra light placed some where on the rear and wired to come on with the reverse lights.

Yes, just edited my post. It's just a case of 2 wires from one light to the other and some new connectors.
