Tow Bar Bike Rack For My T6

Which tow bar exactly? There seem to be differing reports of people being able to open the tailgate depending on which tow bar they have installed? Thanks.

Why have a westfalia demountable towbar and a Atera DL3 a d it clears withou any problems with 2 bikes mounted (approx 25mm), we are really happy with this combo.

I have put photos on a couple of threads, search busbox and what towbar for mounting 3 and 4 bike racks.

Could you tell me the reference number on the detachable tow ball? there seems to be a couple of different ones going around. I have a 321651 fitted, but the tow ball has the reference 321546 on it.

Ours is 321546. Sourced and fitted by PF Jones. Westfalia detachable.

321546 here as well, we have a tailgate and the DL-3 clears it with about 10mm to spare

Hi to all still to pick up my converted T6 camper and as a keen cyclist i want to utilise it with myself and my partners bikes, i was disappointed to be told i can not fit a bike rack on the tailgate door as the T6 has a spoiler and would require some bodywork carried out to fit one, so i am now looking at towbars and towbar carriers , thule and westfillia seem to be the big payers but has anyone had any experience with the xlc carriers and in particular this one https://www.bike24.com/p2382583.html , i have limited storage at home so want to get a folding one and also keep it as light as possible for ease of use, a two bike carrier is fine but ability to add third bike extension would be a bonus.
any ideas or other options is welcome

I think you mean a bike rack that folds to minimise the amount of storage space required (rather than one that just tilts as in the Atera mentioned above). I don't know anything about XLC but I do use a Thule Easyfold XT2 which folds up to the size of a small(fish) suitcase and which is a brilliant bit of kit, albeit it's quite a bit more money than the XLC. That said, if you want it to tilt enough to allow the tailgate to open you will have to modify it and it is heavy but I quite like that as weight in this sort of kit generally equates to strength and that's no bad thing when it's responsible for the safely transporting potentially very expensive bikes. BUT it will only take two bikes and I do not believe it can be extended. I seem to recall that I have posted about mine a number of times on here - just use the search.

from what I found out when researching this, folding ones don’t tilt enough, ones that tilt enough don’t fold

If you want to be able to open your tailgate with the bikes on then you don’t have many options

If you only want to carry 2 or 3 bikes have a look at Atera Genio Pro Advanced.
Carries 2 bikes but can buy rails for another.
Folds up and tilts to clear the tailgate without mods.

Sounds like the bike rack functionality is more important than a plastic fin. I would have the spoiler removed, so you can have the bike rack you want. I have the tailgate mounted rack, so I don’t have to keep the rack in the cellar.

Once I get the van (this week hopefully ) I may get look into getting the spoiler removed but do feel it makes van look good and towbar could poss have Benefits also. All the issues and benefits with tailgate mounted rack are easy to see.

You can have a spoiler and a fixed bike rack.

You just need to cut slots in the spoiler.

Yes I have seen videos of this being done and it is a viable option. Not convinced it’s the best option for me but I will look at it. Did you get specialist to cut spoiler or did you do it yourself.

I did it myself with an angle grinder. The hardest part was getting the spoiler off the van.
