VW Service waiting times

Well the 2 year extra warranty at £34.97 per months (£419pa) is going to pay for it all. The real cost would have been £2600 too me for the work that is needed. EGR, DMF, ACC, DPF service (insurance agree caused by EGR pipe). I also ahd £650 of work done in September.

No brainer!

My MOT due 25/3 so phoned Manchester Van Centre to book in for MOT and service under the service plan expecting to struggle as previously had a 9 week booking delay for something else I had done.

Very helpful, choice of multiple dates and times so settled for 28/2. Expressed my surprise at amount of availability to be told “ah, but you’re a previous customer”.

Maybe flannel but I’ll take it.

Yay I get the van back tomorrow afternoon :waving: after 2 weeks.
Great news on getting all that work done, mine was in Coventry Listers on Monday, they got me on the excessive flywheel noise when it went in last year, I had to sign to decline the health check on Monday.

Phone Lookers Baileston this morning for major service, 7th April....May as well throw in the MOT as well as the date is so far in the future! Has anyone used Motus Commericials in Glasgow ? Might try to get the van in a bit sooner.

JCB Ashford long lead times if you want a courtesy car. Other than that they have me in in just over a week for the diagnostics for my battery drain. A bit longer than I would like as I am almost daily having to jump.

Well I have the van back. Soot levels now at 10.6g. She does run great. They found no issue with the front assist or ACC unavailable failing so now I’m p*ssed off. It’s failed up a number of times.

I rang my local Independent last week to book in for a service and the earliest he can fit me in is 28th March. Looks like everyone is mad busy.

I’ve got a seven month old VW California. Driving home the other day, I got an engine overheating warning and EPC light came on. Pulled over and fan was going at full blast, but no signs of overheating. Restarted and all ok for a couple of miles. Then everything was going - ACC, stop/start, stability control, parking sensors etc. Got home and called VW Assist and an AA man came out. Diagnostics suggested a fault with the temp sensor but he didn’t have one and couldn’t see anything wrong with it. Said I should get it booked in but left me with the van as it didn’t have the red exclamation mark sign, only the yellow one.

Called VW Vans Manchester - earliest date for diagnostics 14th March. Seven weeks! They said the only way they could look at it earlier is if the AA towed it in. They won’t do that unless the van says it should not be driven.

Since then, I’ve had various journeys. Some only ACC switches off, some multiple systems, occasionally the EPC light comes back on and van says it’s overheating again. But that sometimes just disappears again even when driving. I actually did a 300 mile round trip with no issues at all!

Problem is, I don’t want to be driving it when all these warning lights keep coming on. Safety is obviously affected if things like stability control goes off and I don’t want to be told I’ve made things worse through driving it. But it’s my only form of transport so I’ve got no option. Really not happy with this on a brand new, very expensive van.

I’m going to phone VW Assist again and really lay it on thick to see if there’s anything they can do (someone mentioned a silver van VW Technician can come out rather than the AA?). Other than that, anyone got any suggestions?

TIA.

seven month old VW California. - so your in warranty.

call the VW CV Assist line again. . . a politely ask for a SILVER VAN ONLY, NO YELLOW AA VAN.

they will come to you a do a proper VW diag,

and repair, or return and repair, or get you a slot at the local dealer within two days.

Cheers @Dellmassive. Yes, in Warranty. But seven week wait!

So these Silver vans are real then, not an urban myth?!

Wow. That is shocking service. A 7 month old premium vehicle costing north of 70k and they give that response. I’d be off to VW Manchester tomorrow to speak to the manager.
absolutely . . . but I've found that when the garage is busy and quoting 6weeks wait times.

calling the VW CV Assist guys is way better. .

chatting to my local guy the other day. . . he said there is no time frame on any callout - he can spend as much time as needed with me to ge the problem sorted.

when i asked about the booking line saying that i had to wait 4-8hrs for the silver van service,

he said that's how the booking system worked - they tell you 4-8hrs wait, or following day - whatever.

and basically the first guy that come available in the area gets passed the job - happy days.

makes the ALL-IN package for us old timers a great service (6year old van now)

i done the same with the BUS a week later. . . . 67 plate van - EGR pipe replaced on driveway.

nope they are real and worth every penny . . . . you've paid for the service as part of the van - use it.

its it collaboration with the AA under contract.

but the silver van guys are VW specialists and have all the VW gear.

they have direct access to the local dealers and TPS for parts, as well as VW tech support lines.

+++++++++++

you need to call and asked for the silver van guys,

and the van needs to have a drivability concern i ie red engine light, overheating engine, knocking noise.

you need to tell them that or they will just try and say to go to the garage in six weeks.

I've called them before for a simple fault - blower fan not working, but had to elaborate the truth by saying it was dangerous to drive is i couldnt see out the screen.

you get the idea. . . . but you have genuine issues - overheating etc. . .

so get back on the phone and get one booked.

keep us updated with the progress

Ok, they took some persuading but I’ve got a VW Technician coming out to have a look. They tried to get me to call VW customer service to put pressure on the garage initially but talked them round.

Will let you know outcome.

As @Dellmassive says...

I worked for the AA as a call handler for a short while and on VW Assist there is a ticky box on the call script to ask the customer if they would prefer the Silver Van (dedicated VW AA technicians) with a greater level of training and more parts on-board. They also have access to dedicated office staff with technical know-how and remote solutions
