2019 199 T6 Caravelle Executive 4Motion, DSG, with Differential Lock LED Lighting
Like the LED Head Lights but HID would have been preferable, which are superior in many ways IMO. Do not trust or use automatic setting prefer to use manual adjustment of what lamp to use from DRL to Lighting up time, rain and especially fog, always turn full lights on for fog and rain. Turning full light from DRL turns on the rear lights. I resent automatic settings even for the DRL. After over 50 years of driving I think that I remember when and what lights need lighting up and turning off. As for dipping I am far better then the auto settings anticipation is the thing. Automatic lights have made people even more lazy. Even fewer people now use the most appropriate lights for the conditions that they are driving in such as poor viability rain and especially fog.
DSG like it a lot, was sceptical at first. It is my first experience I use manual override quite frequently for bends and down hill sections adjusting speed and 20mph zone fast running engine engine heps keep speed under so might select a gear for different speed limits.. Frequently change down multiple gears at one time on contorted twisty narrow roads particularly those with gradient. Always in the sport mode. When driving on full auto in sport the box is reasonably intuitive it does learn to some extent. It can be quite relaxing in pure auto setting. Dislike having to change into normal setting to access full manual, it a bit of a faff so tend not to use it. DSG is very good Off Road. Dislike lack of engine breaking, it is very poor both On and Off Road. Their is some engine braking but very little, it is not just the box I feel and it is a trend I do not like, having driven many vehicles over the years with fantastic engine braking this is very much a disappointment. Engine braking is extremely important On and Off Road. A lower first gear would help with Off Road use. I would like a better front dfferential facility Fergusen / Torsen. Would prefere that in the rear also but will just have to dream.
Suspension is middling and degrades noticeably over only a few thousand miles. Regardless of terrain the damping rate is not good. Definatly needs far more control and stiffer damping. KONI adjustable is the best option in my opinion. Probably a change of springs with KONI adjustable should give the best results for most people too. Bum scrappers can sort there own out. I will go higher a for my own needs. Most ideal would be KONI Adjustable with air or Electro Hydraulic lift. The latter would be fantastic and by the sounds of it could be adjusted while on the move and set. Could be potentially better then air??????????
Driving environment excellent. Heated electrically adjustable memory seats very comfortable and convenient but why is the front passenger not identical to the drivers seat? The middle row captains style and rotating and sliding offers good versatility and surprising comfort regardless of direction. A very good communal environment for rear passengers. Rear bench OK bit a little more padding would be appreciated. A bit board like but OK. Why are all the rear seats so bloody-well heavy, ridiculous. The middle row I have removed for a little while in order to slide the rear bench forward for carrying stuff. If lighter would be in and out rather than just out. I can only imagine the amount of heft needed to remove rear bench. "I did have two dangly bits and an elephants trunk darling didn’t I, one seems to have been gone somewhere cant remember were I left it, Ha Ha. Under seat storage an absolute joke. The doors or flaps to little spaces distort and become useless and will not stay on the single tray broken on the runners and why only one sliding tray. Overall storage places pathetic after thoughts. I do like the rear bench adjuability upright to bed
Rear boot area spacious but nowhere to store heavy tools or indeed any tools! A single passenger side ill thought out pocket can accept some bits and pieces but the pocket flap distorts and will not stay in place. Only option is to use plastic boxes and strap them down.I do not want a tow hook or jack hitting anyone on the bonce if a serious accident ever occurs.
Over all I like my vehicle and enjoy taking it out. It but VW could have so easily made it better with just a little thought. It is a great vehicle around twisty narrow hedged roads. It gives very good alround vision, which is important. It is good on all roads infact. It has proved capable off road so long as it is understood it lacks good aproch and depeture angles and need lifting. Has excellent traction particularly with more suitable tyres. Mine at the momment are BFG255/55R18 AT KO2 3PMS. On steel Rims 40mm offset no rubbing under any conditions. Slightly taller tyres might be nice for off road use but would rub and definitely would require a lift to accomodate them. Its no good with tyres having no clearance on muddy going it has to have somewhere to go particularly with twiggs and other stuff in the mix.
The radio is quite reasonable but the aerials for all would be better on the roof not in the vulnerable mirrors. Most other vehicles pull in weak signals far better. I like to listen Jazz, blues Classical etc but also to Irish Radio Stations here in Wales, Classical and Irish Galic Folk and the reseption is not as good as many other vehicles we have or had. I quite like the newer aftermarket types with very large titable tablet like screens but can I jutify spending ££££ on top of other more required bits and peice Mmmmm er. Switch gear I feal is presented fot LHD and some important switches a tretch. Like the engine cuttout run thing so I instictively press it on start. Off Road switches ought to be completly on the own diff lock ASR ect/ I would lie to facilitate the rear view morrors with camaeras turned on all the time while driving.
I like taking it out......................
