What Have You Bought Today?

My fist car was a metallic beige Allegro, not all that dissimilar to the VW colour although it looked hideous on the Allaggro.

A previous owner had endowed the car with a Starsky and Hutch style speed stripe along the sides and up the C pillar onto the roof. The stripe was hand painted in brown and looked hideous, but at least they'd masked it off. Why people inflict such unnecessary pain on innocent vehicles is beyond me, although I suppose it could hardly make the Allegro any worse.

I keep mentioning to my 94 year old mother that we could really do with her inheritance, but she has no intention of going anywhere and is enjoying SKIing, spending kids inheritance! Bless her!

The allegro was the biggest piece of shit ever made.
Yours could have been worse as they came in diarrhoea brown.
Was even worse than the Triumph Doliposhite. And that was really shit.

To be fair my Allaggro 1750 was the HL with twin choke carbs. 7 extra horsepower over a mk1 XR2 and tenth quicker to 60.

The difference was though that the Fester would do those numbers reliably day after day and looked good doing it, whereas the Allegro would do it only when it felt like it, typically for about 5 minutes every third solar eclipse, and looked like a turd slowly sliding off a rusty shovel. I got through 3 engines in a year.

Anyway, apologies for dragging the subject off topic and I hope all this talk of 70s BL products hasn't traumatised anyone
