To be fair my Allaggro 1750 was the HL with twin choke carbs. 7 extra horsepower over a mk1 XR2 and tenth quicker to 60.

The difference was though that the Fester would do those numbers reliably day after day, whereas the Allegro would do it only when it felt like it, typically for about 5 minutes every third solar eclipse. I got through 3 engines in a year.

Anyway, apologies for dragging the subject off topic and I hope all this talk of 70s BL products hasn't traumatised anyone

I redeemed myself with my next car. A Rover SD1 2600 with a high trim spec and in surprisingly good condition. My mates Grandad took a shine to it and I ended up selling it to him and going back to motorbikes for a few years.
