What Have You Done To Your Van Today?

Can you put the links up to what you bought please
This LED string (now £20)

My priorities were:
- waterproof
- remote
- music mode
- 2 x 5m
- 12v (some are 24v)

This power cable (£13)

Priorities were:
- 3m cable (most are 1.3m or so)
- 10A (most are 1-3A)

*the light strip power supply claims output of 6A. In my testing it didn’t seem to rise above 2A. You could pay less, though I would say this one feels well made.

I used a few zip ties to secure wires.

And that’s it!

How did you get it to stick to the underside

Hu, I went with a tru trak, best in auto express review 3 wire version, £39 delivered, £6 a month.

Be interested to know the point of the 3rd wire please?
Also, is having it connected to the vehicle battery likely to cause drain issues?

@RunDSG And how did you get it through the canvas? Did you make a hole? When thinking about this before I through I could feed the cable through the window at the front when we want it on but that seems a little too heath Robinson! But I don’t really fancy making a hole in the canvas. My solar rans inside through water proof connectors on the outside of the canvas but inside the poptop roof, but can’t get at this easily now as this was done during the conversion.

Looks really good though so I’ll have to think about this again.

I’ve installed a Victron 75/15 solar controller in the rear of our van today,
I made up
a 3 metre
Anderson connector 20 amp lead to my folding solar panels and a 20 amp fused lead to my batteries. I also put fibre washers as distance pieces as the controller instructions says don’t mount on a combustible base.
the pictures look off centre as our drive is quite steep.
John.

Sadly I had to clear my windscreen of remnants of a suicidal pigeon this evening. Thankfully my girls are ok but shook up as it sounded like a brick hitting the screen.

Feeling very guilty but there was nothing I could have done at the speed we were travelling.
Pigeons do excellent aerobatics once struck at speed by a windscreen, almost like a spiral pirouette surrounded by a plume of feather confetti.

You sound like you've studied this in way too much detail!

These LED strips are backed with double-sided tape as standard. Hot as hell today… checked it for adhesion and it seems to be holding just fine.

The underside of the roof was perfectly clean.

I just hope I can get it off easily if they fail!

I hear ya. It’s gotta be a tidy job for me, too.

Here’s a photo of the narrow end of the top bed. My skyline canvas has a thick overlapping Velcro section at the back. You’ll see a black wire that comes in from the solar panel outside and goes down through a hole in the top of the van (into a cavity behind a panel in my rear cabinet). I was able to tuck the control unit in the same cavity and run the LED wires from outside, through the existing gap in the velcro, down through the same hole. From that cavity, the power cable runs down behind my cabinets and peaks out near my 12V plug.

In the end, a simple job. But as with anything, I had to find a way.

Not sure what to suggest if you have no way into your pop top. Could run in externally through the tailgate, but not sure if you can make that a tidy job.

Bit of a labour of love this one.

We had our 2+1 back seats changed for a 1+1+1 set-up to give us more options with how we use the van. One of the options I wanted was to remove the middle seat and have a central unit so the back seats had more usability storage especially for longer trips.

I'd searched and couldn't really find anything on the market and after getting the Ovano unit was inspired to just do it myself.

Quite happy with the first attempt. There are two sections underneath for bags etc... along with an elastic storage net in each section. On top I added some drinks holders and maybe in the long run I'll run a usb charger to the unit.

All secured to the seat floor mounts using M6 J Hooks so it aint going anywhere.

This is awesome, great work, is it the right if he to support the ovano in bed mode?

Removed another rear Kombi panel to carpet - this one will have a CBE mains socket and USBs.

Decided after doing that it was just too hot to do anything else so went back indoors and sat in front of the fan
