What Have You Done To Your Van Today?

Towbar wiring coming on. 12V fusebox now routed and loomed in. New loom looped into OBD port. Was losing light by the time it got to both multiways on the BECM....

Red LED's arrived for the door card project and finally fitted the door seals... Sounds better but not quite like the golf.

@RedUn FYI foil backed bubble wrap is not insulation. Its a good moisture barrier and works to reflect radiant heat where there is a suitable airgap but has an R value of around 1.

Fitting some midge netting - very fine mesh midge netting with magnets to attach to vehicle - cutting to size here - I’ll hold the magnets in place with a spot of glue and then ‘hem’ them in with needle/thread tomorrow.

Where did you purchase the netting and magnets from, please.

I got the netting from totallyherby.com - don’t be put off by the website, they are based on the West Coast of Scotland and know that midges will penetrate most normal ‘insect mesh’. Cheap mesh that came within 48 hours of order. 3 sizes available.

Magnets I just got from Amazon - 6mm x 3mm and a pack of about 35. Dirt cheap. They are very magnety. Superglue didn’t melt the mesh, I put a wee piece of card between the door and the net then placed a spot of glue on the mesh over the card and then attached the magnet. A couple of hours later I peeled off the card and hemmed the whole shabang with needle and thread in case the glue eventually degrades.

Stuck a Multirail on the other day and then it rained; on the drivers side I opened the window at a drive thru and got quite wet. Another one now on order for the o/s! Today took out the Nextbase dash cam which was behind the mirror out of the way but stopped the auto lights working as they should, and installed a much smaller Garmin 55 dash cam instead which fits behind the right hand side of the mirror nicely.

Mosi nets are unfortunately no good for midges. Looking at the mesh on those linked the midge would be straight thorough. The Scottish midge is a miserable wee beastie!
Yep, I went over all the mesh vents in mine with proper midge netting, they wouldn’t even notice mosi netting. Not made for northern climates unfortunately, I don’t know why manufacturers don’t get it.

Midges love normal insect mesh - like chucking a stone through an open window. The one difficulty with my method was sewing the magnets into the mesh - with a metal needle... Live & learn. The whole lot cost me about £15 and some of my time. Those California nests are £95! Worth it if time is an issue and it’s mozzies that are the issue I guess.
