What Have You Done To Your Van Today?

Yesterday I glued on the remaining window that was left after I had a delivery error. I wanted to make sure I used enough glue as I had a problem with one of them leaking so I went crazy and ran out of glue 3/4 way round  so I just used emergency silicon to complete the final side (luckily I had started at the top). Really hoping that's going to work out.

Started the process of sealing up my leak with Captain Tolley - will see how that goes...

Angle grinded off the bulkhead upstanding

Installed an MS craft swivel seat

Chatted to multiple neighbours

You're doing a brilliant job @Amber ! Can't wait to see the finished version...

We moved house 8 years ago from 'Royal' Sutton Coldfield, to the Walsall republic, closer to mother in law and a very poorly Grandad YamYam, joy...
The only thing I miss about Sutton Coldfield is that the neighbours were so far 'up themselves' that the bi-weekly car wash was a quick affair because neighbours didn't talk to you!
In Walsallshire folk are far more friendly and driveway activities take sooo much longer, explaining a dozen times last year why I was siphoning oil through the dispstick tube on the van became tiresome! Do love 'em though, they keep an eye on all comings and goings! Should really benefit from a reduction in insurance!

Thank you - its great to have the encouragement as this is my first big project and my first time using most of these tools...eek.
Loving the expertise on this forum...

I did have some neighbours ask me very concerned about my boarded up window, worried it had been vandalised. Then on their afternoon dog walk - gosh you've been out here all day! Yep :)

Agreed to an Up-plating on my T28 to 3100kg. They would go to 3200kg if I installed 'air' in the rear, I'll live without the extra 100kg I feel!
The folk at Van Weight Engineering are excellent. £276 Inc vat, well recommended!

Was thinking of doing that to my t28, go to t30!

What’s involved Wayne?

Thanks fran

There's a few of us now aiming at a T31!
DM me your email address, I'll send you the communications.
Not difficult just takes a few hours!

Engine oil & filter changed, cabin pollen filter changed on Sayurday. Researched changing the DSG oil and found
which is the clearest explanation I've seen as to how to change the oil. Okay it does reference a VW Golf, but it clearly shows the steps involved for the DQ500 DSG 'box

Kinda like the space i have created ready to fit my subwoofer and do the cable runs. A bit anti social if i kept it this way but passenger seat surplus to requirements as a solo :) but i do like the captains chair. Found a load of hair under the seat and the carpet. yuck!

Did a possible fix on my leaky sliding windows.

Ordered some 3mm, 4mm, and 5mm foam rubber cord and fed this into my 2x sliding window seals (one had already split at the join, the other I made 2x small nicks to feed it it) with the help of a spare bicycle gear cable fed through to pull the cord back through.

On first test, after removing the copious amount of silicone grease which was keeping the seal watertight (but is only a temporary fix) it seems to have worked. My thinking is that the seals are hollow and they're not making a tight enough of a seal against the outer glass. The 4mm stuff fits perfectly, I tried the 5mm and that would be even better but there's just too much friction when pulling it through, even with lots and lots of lubricant (fnarr). It ends up breaking.

The windows aren't any harder to close, chucking some water directly at the seals and they seem to be sealing and not letting any water through.

We're due some heavy rain tomorrow overnight and in the past there's been a swimming pool in my side step so I'll see how it fairs.
Hi there, where did you order the rubber cord from, could you share the link ?

No worries, it was this stuff:

We had a load of rain last night, although it wasn't coming directly at the window as it was on a north wind, but in the footwell this morning it was bone dry. And I only had enough left to do half the seal on the side that leaks the most. I've ordered some more so I can do the entire seal on that side.

Were these easy to do? Is it a sleeve over the existing ones

Cheers
They're replacement pins. Fitting process is easy enough but the method of getting the original off could be a chew on. I had to place a tea towel over the original then use some pliers vertically gripped and then twist loose with some force to have them unthread.

The fit of the new Alpine Sub and DSP has not been plug and play so far. Had to get the angle grinder on the passenger seat to remove some ironworks before the subwoofer will fit. Hopefully harness to Quadlock will be easy.
