What Have You Done To Your Van Today?

Today's job I made a custom handbrake spacer block so I can stop hitting my knuckles on the seat rail. Figured let's throw a little pocket into it while I was at it and a bit of branding for the YouTube channel

I need to do the scuttle on mine, apparently it's well worth the effort for reducing road/engine noise. Do you need a special tool for pulling the wipers?
I just removed the nuts, sprayed with PlusGas and after a little while gave them a waggle and they came off.
Top tip-read the forum first. I pulled all mine apart and then read a post from @DXX saying to mark where the wipers had been on the screen so you could put them back in the same place. Doh!
Anyway, luckily my van is filthy so there was a perfect line on the screen where both wipers had been.

I’m about to do my scuttle panel this eve. Have you been out for a drive / has it made a difference. Any pics of the job complete? Cheers!

I've been out and it is definitely quieter. Not much quieter at tickover, but quite a bit quieter when driving along. I think tickover is more vibration that engine noise
Awesome cheers, didn’t get round to it. Wiper arm removal tool didn’t arrive in time. Tomorrows task!

Having priced a pop-top retrofit at £5,500 I decided on the next best thing and installed my own mini pop-top in the form of a 400mm x 400mm Heki skylight which fitted in perfectly between the two rear roof ribs. I offset it slight to have as little dips in corrugations when sealing the skylight. I also manage to fit 2 100W solar panels on the roof side by side.

The difference now, inside for extra light and ventilation is great. I also decided the traditional layout of rock and roll bed and made to measure kitchen units was not suiting me. I made a cupboard from 12mm ply, varnished and used a piano hinge with a lid and gas strut to keep the lid open.
It was too dark inside van and the rock and roll bed was so heavy the back of the van sagged and affected the handling of the vehicle.
I used to hear every single mini bump in the road. Now the van sits level and handles much better.

I like what you've done. I'm considering taking out my full width R&R bed and having side seating/bed. As you say they are heavy and I find rattle sometimes. Skylight is good idea for allowing the light in.

I was very unhappy with e van before and tried to sell it. Now, with this configuration, I am glad it didn't sell. Going to keep it for the foreseeable future. Hope you decide to do it yourself. The skylight hole cutting is tricky but I measured about 20 times and used a cardboard template before I cut the hole

Washed and wax polished the van in readiness for heading off travelling next week.IMG_0210.jpegTook a photo as the opportunity to enjoy my handiwork is usually limited to the short time before some seagull drops its guts all over the van.
This morning’s first job was to wash of a layer of bird excrement ,from the nearside, so prodigious it was incredible. I had to admit, all be it grudgingly, that having gorged itself on what was clearly a chicken tikka, it was amazing it managed to get off the ground at all.

Maybe it didn’t.
Maybe it walked all the way to my driveway before getting a pal to give it a leg up on to the van roof.
Bastids.
