What Have You Done To Your Van Today?

The V5 shows my van's "mass in service" as 2213 kg, but I'm not quite sure how that relates to "unladen weight".

Is mass in service = unladen weight + 75kg (for the driver), plus the weight of the fuel when tank @ 90% full?

If so, then my van's unladen weight = 2213 - (75 + 60) = 2078kg - i.e. doesn't qualify as dual purpose. :(

I would have to have another look as it’s a while ago now but when I worked it out for mine (6.1 t32 Kombi) it came in under the maximum weight - I’ve got a feeling that I haven’t got ‘mass in service’ on my log book so did it from the vw brochure. I’ll have another look when I get a minute.

My van's a LWB - probably accounts for the extra weight.

Van has had a lovely trip on the back of a flatbed recovery truck as the clutch pedal has decided to hit the floor and not return back!! The nice AA patrol man has informed me it's probably the cylinder in the box as its leaking once the brake fluid is topped up and pressure applied. Now sat at a garage waiting to be picked up by the wife. I think it's gonna be an expensive fix!!

Seeing as VW cut corners on my 2024 transporter… retro fitted the heat shield (even though exhaust is a short one) now stops all the crap of the rear tyre covering the back of the bumper and under bodywork :) image0.jpegIMG_5239.jpegIMG_5240.jpeg

On the Solar point. Suprised today how despite blazing clear sunshine (lovely day in north wales) two 100w panels only pulled 50-75w of power. Even disconnect each in turn proving that indeed each panel pulling half of that number. I know never likely to get 200w, but imagined more than 40%
As well as low sun angle the impact of shading can be quite high. If you have rails this can make low sun angles even more of an impact.
