This is something that I thought I’d never say.....fuel economy...Normally adopt the get in front and staying in front driving style and enjoy over taking BMW drivers ( I was one ....:inlove: ). But I now tow a small trailer and yes! ...watch the fuel gauge needle slow down....only down side is I’m quicker than the lorries but those pesky coaches....:(

ps ... if you see any vdub towing ...please give a bit more room and don’t forget to wave :waving:

Many years ago I used to arrive at my destination in a hot smelling vehicle, glowing brake discs, very little fuel left, slightly stressed.
Now I arrive calm, unflustered, with more fuel and tyre tread left, a few minutes later.
If that's called getting old, it's fine by me!

I've just experienced a 5 mpg drop according to my mfd for my 2018 150bhp kombi. Having seen the mfd hovering around 37mpg for 3000 miles since I owned it from last August, two days ago the mfd started hovering around 32mpg. Same driving .... no lead boot .... no regeneration and not been in for service. Thinking it may be computer error. Apart from seemingly even lower mpg she's a pleasure to own!

I have similar problems
Was serviced a month or so back and it is definitely doing less than normal
Didn’t put the two together until I read this
Surely should up mpg with new filters etc???

Have your brakes been serviced? Get them checked if so. Also check the air flow sensors.

Thanks for coming back on this Scruffy. Can't imagine I have a brake binding issue with only 23k on the clock. But how do I check airflow sensors?

VCDs or possibly Carista for the sensors. I didn't have brake binding issues until it went in for a service. New disc's and pads all round, and the idiots who fitted them didn't adjust the handbrake afterwards!

Pretty sure brakes are not the issue after a good drive and no heat transfer to any wheel. Van is running really well so air mass sensor fault doesn't seem likely either. MFD for av mpg is creeping back up ... now at 33mpg. So I'm on the way to the higher average it once was at! I can't help but think it is or was a computer glitch.

How about this explanation instead of a glitch -->

I got an indicated 44MPG on the MPD yesterday over approx’ 550 miles, 95% motorway driving.
2016 SWB, 180PS, approx 45K miles, standard running gear with some load in the back at 60 MPH with a few 70-75 MPH spurts.
That’s approx‘ 19% better fuel economy than driving 10 MPH faster.
The price of driving a brick.

For the first few thousand miles, plan your routes so that they are mostly downhill?!!! Does wonders for mpg! Or, measure it in Euro: how many litres per 100km!!!

What, and catch a bus home? :slow rofl:

I think you might be onto something here........
You can see how it can go wrong too easily though?!! If you start the day going uphill…..! It’s caught me out once or twice, but never again!

This might sound rather weird but I have a theory that my sudden drop in mpg from av 37mpg to 32mpg was down to a failing 3 1/2 yr old Moll battery. After charging battery up the mpg returned to what I thought was normal. However the battery would not maintain charge so I just replaced it and had it programmed in. Wow what a difference in mpg. Now up to 45mpg on a gentle run instead of 37mpg according to trip computer. Does this make sense to anyone? Surely an overworked alternator wasn't affecting mpg that much!

I notice a few of these big drops in mpg occur around the time that the winter diesel fuel will start being delivered. This does give worse fuel consumption. It also should go back up again when it gets to spring time and the summer fuel starts being delivered.

Evening folks just bought my first t6 2.0 tdi dsg 2016 camper van set the trip on putting £20 in and it’s only managed 70 miles ! This is driving to work and back steady away . Is this the norm or does it need looking at ?

Sounds probably normal. I fill mine about £65/70 a time and get 300 -400 miles or so with a full load so you’re in the ball park
