Calculated on a full tank driving from UK to Fr to CH then Fr again through the hills I got a little over 42mpg. Second tank DE to FR was only 39mpg.
But on the first tank, driving down a hill the dash read 117mpg at one point! :D

I don’t know how you guys do it. I start my trip with 50mpg average, it ends 25.
I find motorway an inconvenience, don’t like waste my time driving the motorway.
It’s absolutely boring and nothing to entertain me. At least I have got my podcast to listen to…

2300m covered recently in France. 37.9mpg in all. A real mixed bag of driving, particularly in the Ardeche where you rarely got out of third gear! but stunning.

Over the last 7000 (ish) miles I’ve got 40.9 mpg. That’s the 102hp 2.0 diesel with manual box,16 inch wheels with Hankook r28 tyres pumped to the max recommended pressure according to the sticker on the door pillar. Full camper conversion with pop top weighed on a public weighbridge as 2250kg with a full tank of fuel but no people, luggage or water. I’m pretty happy with that!

Calculated MPG after a 400 ish mile trip, mostly Dual carriage way I averaged 38.6mpg. On day to day 72 mile round trip to work mix of A roads and dual carriageway I average around 32-34. 2WD 150ps DSG.

Got to say I love VW dsg gearboxes! Have a 2.0tdi golf with one. That gets 58mpg around town, 69 on a good run and is still smooth on the original clutch(es) after 97k. Impressive really. Wish the van had one but we fell in love with it for everything else it has and it’s probably good to keep my practice at stirring porridge

69 mpg on a good run?
No, I don't believe it, the display might say 69 but it's lying.

Edit - sorry, my mistake, I didn't read the word Golf - I thought you were referring to a T6! Yes, possible in a golf, apologies!

yeah I love the DSG boxes, only other auto but I felt was better was the PDK in a Porsche. Our other family car is a golf with DSG box aswell, but being a stage 1 R I average 18-26mpg hahaha it’s just too much fun.

I've only done a little over 3k and only averaging 30mpg! I was chatting to a VW technician who said he's averaging 46 mpg, he has engine coasting activated driving a similar van with DSG gear box?

Last W/E….we drove on mainly A roads …and got this ……204 dsg ( TVS).….I’m still very pleased and for fun factor 10/10…

My Mk7 golf has the dsg ‘box and the coasting function in eco mode. I use it a lot. Some roads near me you can travel a mile at the speed limit just a with the engine on idle (mainly due to gentle hills). With the low noise and the dynamic chassis control absorbing the imperfections of the road it really is very relaxing and, more to the point, efficient.
Crazy how more cars didn’t use this feature.

That seems good for such a high bhp engine considering the aero capabilities of our vans. I expected our 102 bhp would be economical if driven sensibly and it hasn’t disappointed.
…..We ..like you enjoy our van ….but like nothing more than giving it a good workout on motorways that’s until I get steely-eyed glare from the wife…..honest I’m just clearing out the engine it will run better :inlove::inlove::inlove:

is this only for T6? My T5.1 usually hangs around 36 mpg. It used to be around 40 but I never empty the camping gear out of it so the constant weight has a big effect on the figures

Your right ….many things can change your economy…tyre size..tyre pressure…weight…..and many more….and don’t forget the road level’s ( up hill down dale) …but overall if you know what your own average economy looks like it’s easier to see problems….but most of all enjoy your van and keep waving :waving:

I’m not so sure the coasting function is fuel efficient. It basically puts the car into neutral every time you lift off the accelerator, so the engine will use fuel, otherwise it will stall. Without the coasting function when you lift off then no fuel is being used.
There may be occasions when coasting has an advantage, but over all driving it uses more fuel.
I believe this is the main reason VW stopped putting it on the T6.1.

Any clues how to activate it?

Any clues how to activate it?
In the golf there is a drive mode select button by the gearstick or I can select modes using the sat nav/radio screen (mmi?)
It has sport, normal, comfort, eco or individual where you set the various things (engine, ac, shocks etc) the way you want. The coasting function only happens in the full eco mode. Setting the engine to eco in ‘individual’ mode doesn’t activate it.
I’m not sure if coasting is only available on vehicles with the dynamic chassis control and dsg together? Have a vague recollection of discussions on the in the golf forum.
