I'm certain the DSG kills my mpg, I'm averaging 35.6 overall, worked out properly. I think I'd go with a 6 speed if I replaced it as I'm sure I could drive it more economically than the DSG allows.
Have you had a dsg remap? I’ve picked up a 204 dsg and find myself having to drive in sport, otherwise it puts it in D7 at 40mph!

Got a 150 swb dsg. 200~ miles London to Bradford - 39mpg average 50mph. Return journey with a bit of weight on board & bit more traffic - 38mpg, average 44mph.

You say average 50 / 44 mph but what speeds were you doing on the motorway? I'm assuming you used them!

I have a 204 manual and according to the MFD I'm getting about 41mpg over the last 1300 miles or so. 60mph on dual carriage ways with cruise control set. I had 52 mpg on a drive from Nottinghamshire up to the North east, 60mph all the way with no traffic.

I think these vans are very sensitive to the way they are driven in respect to mpg. I've got A/T tyres on and can get 36/37 on the A1 doing about 70 max, maybe push on to 75 to clear a run of lorries. I'll happily sit at 60 if it is clear. However, if I can't be arsed and just want to get home I'll do a little bit more and it's down to 30 mpg in no time!

I've just done the sums on fuel consumption during our recent road trip to Croatia. Fully loaded for a month away (but without towbar rack and bikes this time), we did an average of 37.3MPG over 2801 miles. This was mostly motorway driving at 70 - 75 MPH (but I doubt if we managed over 60 on the entire drive across Germany and most of it was a lot slower!). The van has now done 14195 miles so I'm guessing it's done all the 'loosening up' that people talk about that it's going to do. The trip that we did down to the Vendee, Brittany and Normandy in June was a total of 1600 miles and it returned 36 MPG - that was with bikes on the back but more or less the same load and driving conditions (if you leave Germany out).

Doesn't sound too shabby for a fully-laden van, though I suspect the engine may have more loosening-up to do yet. Don't know about VWs specifically, but when I had my diesel beemer, the mpg kept on improving from new all the way up to 80/90k miles. Throughout my ownership I was doing the same, long journey - commuting between West Yorkshire and Glasgow - which meant my mpg figures were comparable over time and not really distorted by different journey types or driving styles.

About the same as mine.

Are the TSIs really that good? Despite some people's claims of 300mpg on a transcontinental run, most 150 TDI DSGs will long lerm average low 30's. Given the difference in fuel prices, I doubt there's much in it.

My trip was reset when I went to South Wales at the beginning of December apart from that it's only town driving and I'm getting 31.1mpg on a 16 plate 150 manual. It's gone done since I've had as you need to blast them now and again!! I tell the wife it's to clean the DPF. Which it is of course.

Motorway run, average speed 70/75 it hovers around the very high 20's.
Not sure if its a true reflection as I'm running 20", will that screw with the figures?
If I wanted economy, I'd have stuck with the Qashqai

204 LWB 4mot DSG full camper conversion. Filled up at home, got on the motorway ACC set to 60. After 107 miles we were averaging 45mpg with a range of 790miles still to go. So around 1000miles on a tank full. Did a 300mile round trip & topped up the tank when I got home. The refill amount matched the figures from the MFD.94113CD8-82E3-4462-A42C-6A3F92C1170D.jpeg5B241040-0857-4B66-AF9A-61F24686C548.jpeg0FFBA33F-591D-4700-B010-DE24A7426276.jpeg
