I think I may have been there before, is there a path that goes from one side, round behind the waterfall and back out on the other side?

No, you can swim behind the fall on the bottom picture... there's no clear path to get behind it... the top picture is the widest fall.. and the trail is quite rugged in places... there's 7 or 8 falls in this area near pontneddfechan..
