Just got back from our first multi-site trip: started by going to the Caravan and Motorhome Club site at Barnard Castle. Great site and an enjoyable place to visit.
Then onward to Fallowfield Dene campsite near Hexham, taking in Beamish open air museum on the way. Campsite wasn't up to the standard of the club sites unfortunately.
Took a side trip to the Chester's Fort part of Hadrian's Wall while we were there. Very interesting.
After that we went up to Dunstan Hill Camping and Caravan Club site just north of Alnwick. Called into Alnwick Castle on the way then did the Alnwick Gardens the following day. They are right next to each other but operated as completely separate attractions.
Longest bit of driving next, back southbound to Holmfirth where we stayed just one night at Holme Valley campsite which we have used previously. Nice site. On the way down we called in at Cragside, big National Trust property. Well worth a visit.
We were given a pitch at the edge of the duckpond at Holmfirth, and as we were only staying the one night we didn't bother with setting up the awning, instead we pegged down a little pop-up tent next to the van and chucked the awning bag, barbecue and other associated junk into that to clear living space in the van.
Being in Holmfirth meant we could meet up with our son who lives there before setting off back home to Horwich. Just got to go and pick up the cat from the cattery tomorrow morning now, then give the van a good clean.
