Where Have You Been In Your Van Today?

You have All Season tyres it appears?
Yup, I've run the Michelin CC and then CC+ on 3 XC70s so put the same on the van. The van ones are the standard not Agilis (sic?) version.

But with 6 of us in the van it's very light on the front when the going gets a bit slippery and the DSG in reverse isn't the best torque control wise to use the reverse out trick so I take it easy.

I'd have very much liked the 4Motion but they're hard to find in a 6.1 Caravelle so some compromise was needed.

Wandered along to Aviemore today for a trip on the Strathspey Railway. Lovely train ride in the middle of some rain, which cleared later to watch the next run of the train pass through Boat of Garten station and be rewarded by a spectacular rainbow.

Also might be of interest to some folks around these parts, despite some signs saying No Overnight Parking they are currently trialing an overnight parking scheme for £15 in the station carparks:

Not today but on our way up we stopped at a lovely Antiques and 1940s Tea Room venue literally 1 minute off J13 on the M6.

Much nicer than a services and I managed to stop MrsRT from filling what little space we had (6 up for a week in Scotland!) with antiques.

We'd had a round of bacon butties already, which is a shame as this would have been tempting...

Was planning on a day out at Dunstable Downs today, but the women of the house are ill and I didn't really want to leave them.
Coincidence! (nearly!)

Mrs CAB was there this afternoon with her friend, found a window in the weather while I WFtheirH.

Now at Gorse Hill Hotel, Woking, listening to proppa Surrey accents.

Just driven from folkestone to the midlands and didn't get a single wave from fellow bus owners ! Miserable buggers!!
The waving thing, it was popular in the Landrover Community for decades but when LR'st became overly popular the wave declined and like many things one presupposes that you have something in common with someone just because the have a similar vehicle when in fact that may not be true. The VW T is exceedingly common now, if one waved to everyone then ones arms would end up disproportional to the rest of the body and I am already a knuckle dragger! I do look over and if someone is giving a friendly acknowledgment then I will respond but in reality we have passed like ships in the night and even at slow speed 30mph say that a combined 60mph. Someone waved or acknowledged me the other day and I was looking in their direction I went to lift my hand and they had passed the other way they probably think I am a miserable git but I am not, well sometimes perhaps if I am pissed off with something but generally quite open and responsive.

Possibly on some quiet road at slow speed then a wave acknowledgement or headlamp flash might be more appropriate or comfortable but in populated or over populated areas well that up to the waver. I always respond to someone pulling over on narrow roads no matter what they are driving and living in the country one may respond to a distant neighbour who may be miles away by road.

When deciding whether to give a wave or not you have to determine, all in the space of about 10 seconds, whether the van coming towards you is a typical builders van (no wave) or a T6 enthusiast van, like does it have mods etc!

Also what's the etiquette for waving whilst passing or being passed on a motorway/dual carriageway?

I've had a few waves in my local area over the past year.

Exactly, which is exactly how I justified to SWMBO the fitting of a front splitter: so that oncoming enthusiasts will recognise a fellow traveler and give a salute - which tickles her fancy :grin bounce: (Hoping for a noticeable uptick in waves this season, otherwise any further mods will be much harder to justify!)

@Sasquatch, many happy memories of childhood picnics at Dunstable Downs. Bit far for a day out now.

Your vehicle is looking super clean. Do you find white vehicles so much more pleasantly cooler in the hot summer sun!
It's dark! But it was cleaned beforehand.

I've never had a dark vehicle so can't say if it's better, as said above the glass has a lot to do with it.

But there was that research done by Ford on the original Transit (I think it was them?) with different colour vans and measuring the temperature, which showed white was significantly cooler.

But I guess once you put glass in you lose a lot of the advantages.

I do prefer white though.
