Will Coronavirus Close Campsites?

I was in Costco yesterday buying some fish and everyone else seemed to be buying water and shit tickets by the trolley full
Im sure they didn't even cut water supplies during the war, less likely for Flu symptoms

Someone in our town has set up a corona community hub on Facebook to get volunteers to register to help those in the higher risk groups when they need to self isolate. Think it’s a great idea. There’s suggestions of setting up regular calls either by phone or Skype to those who will be isolated to reduce the loneliness.

what I’d like to know is if there is / will be a plan to test people who think they might have had it. If I knew I’d had it (and the science suggests you are unlikely to be re-infected or a carrier once you have had the illness) I could get on with helping others and my job / life without worry of what spreading it might bring

.... dear friends, I am writing to you from Italy, we are obliged to stay at home here, schools are closed and transport is kept to a minimum, the same happens near Slovenia (I live a few meters from the Slovenian border ), the borders are closed and also the borders between Slovenia and Croatia. In the nearby region of Istria, the campsites would open from April 24 but nobody will open .... even the hotel chains have closed ... it's not a good situation ... I hope it will be better for all of you

I wondered about our Italian members, we have several.

Good luck over there mate

That's awesome. We've been testing FaceTime and suchlike to my Grandma in case she is isolated but a community-wide effort is a great idea.

It's a good point on the test to see whether you've had it too. It's definitely possible to do an antibody type test I think but I don't know how easy it is to roll out at large scale across the population. It would be very useful to know whether you've definitely had it.

Yeah, best of luck, it sounds like a very grim situation over there with healthcare professionals effectively having to choose who gets treatment. I think Italy was very unlucky with the high initial undetected infections but now the lockdown has properly begun, surely we have to see numbers start to plateau?

Well I’ve had two doctors in the last two weeks openly suggest my 97 year old father is left to pass away next time he gets an infection rather than administer anti-biotics. He doesn’t have a terminal disease and is pretty healthy other than dementia.
I’ve responded with ‘Does the Duke of Edinburgh get the same advice?’.

We’re booked to go through the tunnel and do hops down to the south of franc via the wine regions .... starting late June ....

Our only outlay to date is the tunnel ....

Fingers crossed ..... but a lot can change in 3 months

Being self employed, I’m expecting to have unexpected days off so my clubs will be getting more use than usual - the misses has lots of painting lined up too

We are all going to get, no doubt about that, its too wide spread and our amazing 21st century technology couldnt contain and stop a virus, amazing isnt it.

Anyway. We are both self employed, we have no savings (own a T6), We are literally panicking we might be out of work for over 4-5 weeks plus. That would kill us almost bankrupt us in a financial side of things. We literally have no help, so no sick pay or Gov help.
Because of this we have removed the children from school so we can look to work and get some savings under our belt. We are not panic buying but we are panicking. No one can say we will be ok as an economy, we have been on the verge of a reccession for the past 3 years, this will send us over the edge. Luckily so far the school has been understanding to our position and will look to help us with work for the children at home.

So back to the post. We will still be looking to go away camping this year. We will stay in the UK though which is a shame as we planned on doing some French trips. I can see a fair few people randomly camping in places you would not usually see camping ha ha just because they cannot get away.

Having just got our camper and just spent the first night away in it this weekend we were looking to spend as much time as possible away as soon as the weather improved. We have bookings for various festivals and a summer tour of France. All of these preplanned trips look in jeopardy now. As mentioned in previous posts though there is more important things to think about now, my parents are in the at risk group, my nephew is also due to his medication.

But my wife is a nurse who may need to stay at the hospital and not come home between shifts and being able to plan breaks away is critical for her sanity as well. I also think we should not shutdown completely or the impact of this will be worse. It’s not a case of battening down the hatches for a few weeks then it will be fine, it’s going to be months. Therefore we have to find a way to live and carry on with this new reality

Ouch. Both self employed and no savings - do you not have money set aside for your tax bills ?

Do you have a mortgage? Best you get in contact with them and discuss interest only payments and / or payment holidays

I’m SE and we have savings plus the misses is a midwife, so she could work 7 days a week if her body would let her, and we needed it

I tried a late booking over Easter at Warner Farm and the manager told us they are still full up, no spaces at all.

I've got tickets for Le Mans 24, ferry and campsite booked etc but I think it's almost a certainty this will get cancelled.

I suspect this summer we'll just be taking the caravan to a few very small campsites, the bigger ones will be forced to close.

Although in the grand scheme of things I think holidays are the last thing I/we should be thinking about, so many people will be affected by this that a holiday may become a very expensive luxury that few can afford.

Just had an email from Mother Iveys in Cornwall to say my booking for the start of April is cancelled and I'll be receiving a refund. TBH I'm more gutted for the workers than me missing a few nights away.

I just an email to say Camperfest is postponed until August bank holiday and no automatic refunds for people who cannot attend

... I wanted to give you better news today, but instead it is getting worse .. now there are 2158 deaths and not only elderly people ... hospitals have no more place in the intensive care units ... in South Tyrol ( German-speaking region but Italian) the police send away all non-residents, even those who have a holiday home ... it's crazy ... now all nations close the borders but unfortunately close the factories, shops, and you are left without work ... I hope your government makes the right decisions to contain these viruses .. no wait! ... greetings to all..

Our government is shifting position, but it's not clear whether they are reacting fast enough. The public also takes a long time to adjust to the gravity of the situation, as I said earlier in the thread, this is not the time to worry about your holidays.
