The answer to your question is a bit irrelevant, the point is you can't really start fault finding or diagnostics until you have rectified all known defects. Let us know how you get on, hopefully fixing the split pipe will get your van back to how it should be.

you sure its not a split EGR pipe in the engine bay? (final exhaust fuses shouldnt smell very bad due to the cat and dpf) but the EGR pipe splitting is a very common issue . . . and yours is a 2018 so prime candidate. I've had mine done on bot 2018 and 2017 vans...

You probably have a split bellows on one of the EGR pipes, common issue, part has been superceded. Have a Search with ‘EGR pipe’
