I can't answer that question@alter but where in Italy are you? I'm based in Campania and running 6,5J x 16 5x120 65,1 ET51 steel wheels and BF-Goodrich 235 / 70R16 All Terrain T / A KO2 104 / 101S on my T30.

We need extra rubber round here because the roads are so poor and they are good for excursions into the mountains in Lazio and Abruzzo.

In use, there is little bit of tyre hum but it's barely noticeable and I've noticed no effect on fuel economy. It's a 6% increase in tire diameter so it doesn't pick up as fast which is only a problem for overtaking which I don't do very often! I'll be getting it remapped when back in the UK next so that ought to alleviate that problem.

... I can't fit tires 235 / 70r16 ..... they are not approved for my T32 .. I risk the seizure of documents and the fine ..

Hi All,

Weighing up my options on my wheels at the moment and am looking for inspiration.

Not a real low down type of guy, have more of an all weather, rugged preference..

I have looked here, Off Road Tyre Mpg, and the Michelin Latitude cross sound good but i need more input!

My wants from the alloy would be to go up to 18/19 inches and my preference for a tyre would be to lightly protrude out from the alloy to help avoid scuffs and to have equally good performance in mud and snow, as well as on road and the occasional rocky track / alpine road. Also want to maintain good MPG for long distance motorway travels. Only really want to have one set of tyres to keep on all year round...

FYI - my van is a T32 4motion LWB.

Anyways would be great to get photos of some of your tyre/alloy combinations and some advice.

appreciated as always.

CZ.

I'd personally rule out 19" if you go for a more chunky tyre.
Here's my 19s on a set of Grabber's and they did not work at all. They looked terrible and were way too big.

More tyre, less wheel in my opinion.

maybe 18s would be a better option then... what do you have now?

Same 19s on summer tyres and a new set of 18" banded Amaroks on 255/45/18 Falken winters.

If I wanted a nice chunky off road, swamper look, I'd opt for 17" steels and big tyres.

Don't want to go on full swampy as still want it to look a bit sporty. Would like to have VWCarbon splitter and spoiler added at some point. As a side point also want to go for VB air...

My Michelin Agilis CrossClimate on 17”

Only done 1000 miles on them so far but very pleased with the grip and haven’t noticed a difference in noise or mpg.

Hi @Peter Davies , my wheels and tyres are Dezent TE Dark 18x8.5 with General Grabber AT3 235/55R18 .

@Jimmi, can I ask why you went for the 8.5 and not the 8?

These are the wheels I'm hoping to go for and I'd prefer the 8.5 but according to willtheyfit.com the 8.5 will sit 6.4mm closer to the suspension strut than the 8 so have you had any rubbing. I'm going to fit Nokian all weather tyres.

A guy called Gary at Rimstyle assured me they would fit, I was even told if they don’t fit they would replace them. There’s no rubbing when cornering or fouling of the arches when off road.

First step down a long and muddy road. Standard steelies powder coated gloss black with 225 70 16 wrapped around.

@tifflepops how are these tyres? you get on with them ok? Im looking to stop changing from summers to winters and have an all round tyre.. we do get snow here in switzerland, but we have chains for when really bad - but i'd like to be safe on the roads in normal winter conditions.. we have to have a rating of 103 so i think we have a T32..(never been sure how to find this out?!)

just read into the AT tyres.. not recommeded for winter as the rubber compound is not made for it in comparison to real winters.. so its a no go for me for a one fits all.. i could use the AT's in the summer and help us not get stuck so much in campsites (we're 2wd..) and then stick the proper winters on in oct..

I think General Grabber AT3's have a 3PMSN winter rating/all-season , 235/55/18 is probably the size for T6's. So you can use them all year round particularly in the UK, where hot summers aren't going to kill them

@chriscroft yeah we have 16" claytons and 16" steels.. we live in Switzerland so i want safety! Im totally clueless with regards to tyres and what you can actually put on a rim. With my 16" am i stuck with the tyre size that i have? currently 215/65/16... and i need the 103 load rating..

And the Cross Climates are also 3PMSN so can be used where winters are required. I love mine and use them all year round on both van and car.

I use GG AT3s and have done for a few years now. I use them for driving to Portugal and Spain in 40 degree heat and Switzerland in minus 20. No matter where or how I drive they are lasting 40k plus miles.
I just cant see the point in keep swapping winter to summer back to winter......
