Hi, how do they perform on a wet road? I'm currently running Pirelli Scorpion ATR and was wandering if the wet road handling is any better on Pirelli Scorpion AT+. I'm thinking of getting a set of 235/65/17s
We don't run the AT+ on a T6 yet; we have a set on a 6 cylinder Amarok.
We really like them, they've done 20k miles, and they have lots of tread left (maybe will get 40k with 3mm left). Very good in the wet so far. Can't compare against ATR, but probably the best on road manners of any AT's we've had; and not far behind the Cooper ST MAXX off road.
What size are your ATR's?

ATR's are 235/70 16 ET 56 steel wheels. Thinking of getting AT+ to fit 17"x8" ET35 steel wheels. Like the look of 245/65 17 but might be a bit too big.

They look lovely, i really like the wheels.
But gearing and drivability are lessened?

True. The speedo is a bit off and they are slight noisier than standard tyres, but I'm ok with that.

Here is my setup. I have 245/65 17 on my T6 4motion (standard height). This size fits perfect (over original 235/55 17) in my opinion. No rubbing anywhere. Wheels are oem Amarok 17x8J et49 model "ARAGUA", sandblasted and powder coated in matt black.

Nice!! what was the rough cost of the work on the wheels?... considering the same on my Devonports...

Cheers

So, it seems mrs Deaks and I have decided that we would rather go higher than lower with our lwb t32 project ‘wolfgang’
We currently have two sets of wheels, the standard 17" devonports with 215/60/17 continentals (needs new tyres), and also a set of wolf race x10 19" with 255/45/19 tyres (also need new tyres soon).

I would like to put some swamper type tyres on the 19" wheels and found some 255/55/19 general grabber at3, but the diameter is quite a bit bigger at 763.1 mm. The current tyres are 712.1mm.
The standard devonports are 689.8mm, so the general grabbers are almost 65mm bigger diameter.
Is this too much? It makes the speedo out by -9.61%’ would this create problems for the DSG gearbox (it’s a 204 engine, so plenty of grunt)?
I was planning on fitting a lift kit (either 30 or 50 mm lift).

Or should I just sell both sets and get some black rhino 17" or 18" wheels. Would these clear the big brake callipers I have?

Thanks in advance

Deaks :)

If there is one aspect of T6 ownership I am guilty of "over thinking" its wheels and tyres; I'm OK with suspension as mine came with a 20mm drop and DCC, so the suspension is excellent, even by most cars standards imo.
So I've gone from a committed 17" man, to now an 18" modern man.
For the largest tyre choice (particularly AT &or M&S 17" - 235/65/17 offers a huge selection; but for me they are just too big in terms of changes to gearing and drivability. I've also got a 204, but you will significantly notice a lesser van. There are plenty of people on this site who may well disagree with me. But there you are, its my opinion.
So you can go with 225/65/17 which whilst only 10mm narrower (then 235/65/17, the 2% in difference in gearing is significant, with lots of tyre choice.
My perfect 17" size is 235/60/17, more limited tyre choice, but there are some excellent All-Season tyres with M&S; 3PMSN ratings.
But now I'm running 18", and I must say they look better, and I think they drive better (I keep pitching myself to make sure I'm not just imagining this ;))
So I'm at 235/55/18, and you can get a good choice of All-Season; AT tyres in this size; and these offer the optimal solution in terms of all the characteristics I look for.

I looked at 19" Amarok wheels, but there are too many down sides for my use/needs imo.

But I do keep thinking, 1 day I'll tyre some Pirelli Scorpion AT+ 225/65/17 - OK for all T6's other than T32's (load rating)

And if I wanted the off-road look; I would probably go down this route.

Interesting thread. Wish it was easy to get a big lift down here in Australia. Siekel seems the only option and it's stupidly expensive here.

I ordered mine with the "Rough Road Suspension" option, but it's no higher. I've just got 235/65 R17 KUMHOs in a mild all terrain pattern (Road Adventurer). Pretty quiet on the bitumen. Will be testing them in the sand in a few weeks.

Got a set of 2nd hand Amarok rims for $200 and cleaned them up and painted them black.

Hi David

wow, that is an awesome bumper!!
Could you let me know where you got it please?

TIA

Deaks

Looking to fit some 215/65 R16 BF Goodrich tyres to my T6 Kombi in the next week. The standard steel wheels I have are silver and starting to show rusting, so have been trying to source some new black 16" steel wheels. I cannot find any online, can anyone advise an online seller?

Surprised nobody has gone loco and fit some of these 20”x9” steel modulars... would 9” rim width even fit?

The pic they post is identical to their 18x8” so it’s probably not the right wheel in the pic!

Yes those wheels would fit. Im surprised no one has taken a punt on those as well.

... I also had silver rims, I painted them in black ... very simple ..

I'm not sure if that's an issue but Centre bore on these 16" wheels are 70.1mm but T6 requires 65.1mmm

hmmm, yeah, the 17in version has a 65.1mm centre bore and those explicitly show up as T6 compatible. Not sure about the 16in ones, a slightly too big centre bore might not be a problem given the spigot will still fit through. Hopefully someone who knows more about wheels than me will be along soon to explain...!

Edit - A quick google reveals the centre bore definitely has to match as it transmits the load so it’s only the 17in ones that fit, not the 16in.
