Can anyone tell me if this Amarok wheel/tyre all terrain combo would work for my T6 4motion? They are 265/65 17rs. I’m running standard 17”steel rims at the moment with 235/55 R17 Goodyear efficient grip tyres. Plan to change rim colour to white, to match upper body colour before I change lower half to a metallic grey.
Thanks!

No, they are too large in terms of rolling radius, in fact they are huge for a T6

You would need to lift the suspension; the gearing would be awful; and I'm not sure; even if you messed around with spacers they would still rub, if they went on at all.
You could re use your old 235/55/17 tyre on that Amarok rim; of for me go for a 235/60/17 tyre.
Some people do run 235/65/17's, but for me, these are also too big, and the van just wont drive as nicely.
I think those Amarok wheels will be around 10mm less ET off-set than the T6 wheels; so they will stick 10mm further, which is a good thing imo.

Hi guys,

Thanks for accepting me (new member) and thanks for sharing all this usefull information. I find it all very helpfull in making a right decisions down the road.

Is anyone aware of what’s the bordering dimension when it comes to white lettering on BF Goodrich All Terrain KO2 tires? If there is one at all.

I just figured out hard way (by ordering and getting my 215/65/16 BF KO2’s) that they make them all black now (in this dimension, at least) ... but I believe I’ve stumbled upon someones post here, saying that it has to do something with the tire size?!?

I wanted mine with white letters sooo bad ... cause my multivan is all black and I wanted those BF KO2’s to stand out a bit more... so I was really heart broken when I got them all black. :/

They used to come with white lettering on inside, and black on the other so you could choose.

I thought I saw a post on here where a member had painted the lettering white... Looked decent and couldn't tell the difference... Not sure what paint they used though.... Worth a search

Cheers, didn’t realise the offset was different on these wheels as every other Transporter in NZ is on Amarok wheels. I know my speedo reads much lower than my actual travelling speed so it means I am paying more road user charges than I should be and my vehicle would have travelled much fewer km than the odometer reads. Seems many are on bigger diameter rims, but with low profile tyres rims buckle on our harsh NZ roads.

Huh, thanks JasonW and Lukavell but it seems that I’ve got myself into way bigger trouble than the lack of white lettering on the side walls...

I own Multivan, 4motion, 2.0 liter (140Ps), Highline with a manual gearbox and two sliding doors. Just the way I want it to be - spec-wise. MY is 2010 - so it’s not quite T6 (I apologise if this is not the right place to discuss than - admins feel free to remove the post if you’re keeping it strictly for T6 related issues as the forum name implies).

Namely, I had some strong and long-lasting desires toward outside aesthetics and the way my Multivan should look, which I simply couldn’t resist to, so I got my BF Goodrich KO2’s ordered before I’ve stumbled upon this thread and I just came to regret it now (a lot!). :/

I bought my Multivan as used, with 17-inch alloy wheels on it, along with some 215/60/R17 winter tires. Now, ever since I start dreaming of my VW T5.1 or T6 I’ve always pictured it with BF KO2 tires on matt black steel wheels.

Not being quite sure about correct wheel size choice I went for 215/65/16 as the closest possible option (when it comes to BF Goodrich KO2’s) to the OEM wheel size.

So, I got myself nice VW 16 inch steel wheels and everything seemed fine just up until the moment I figured out that these can’t be mounted in the front due to brake caliper diameter and the disc size! They just won’t fit onto the hub.

I must say that I’ve read each and every post on this thread (all 22 pages or so) in a rather frantic way today, trying to find a solution to the problem I’ve created by not getting informed properly and on time.

To make things worse I live outside of EU, in southeast part of Europe so there is no real chance for me to get back to the supplier and swapped tires for 225/65/17 dimension. I will find out for sure tomorrow.

I’ve talked to some wheel specialist and they think it might be feasible to overcome this with some huge distancers (like 50mm or so) but I’m afraid my Multivan would split like Jean Claude Van Damme between those Volvo trucks ... Not to mention other potential issues like tire wear, ride quality etc. I wouldn’t want to compromise on safety either. This is a family car.

So, I’m really puzzled now what to do... to the degree where I’ve started thinking to get rid of my big diameter brake calipers and to get the newer ones (from T6 I guess), since as crazy as it may sound, those would be easier and more cost-efficient to get than to swap my new BF KO2’s for a different size (225/65/17). Just because T6’s are cruising everywhere around, and there are almost no BF KO2’s in sight at all (except on Jeeps, Land Rovers and other 4x4’s, which comes in different sizes anyway). As a matter of fact, I don’t think I ever saw BF KO2 in real life on a van before.

Maybe a caliper downgrade on the front would be cheaper, than buying a set of 17" wheels and another new set of tyres... but I don't know what the safety implications are with down sizing the brakes on the front...? Is that legal... and how would that affect the insurance....

You’re right JasonW, I suppose I’ll have more info on that tomorrow (monday) morning...

With regards to Alter’s post, I like those very much. I’ve seen your set up in your post from 3rd and 4th of June 2018, but it simly didn’t occur to me that there would be difference in brake caliber size between the vans.

I have exact same wheels now and they just won’t fit in the front.

... my Cali does not have the set up from 17 .. I have not ordered it because I have already considered the 16 brakes valid ... and the tires with shoulder / 65 are more valid and comfortable off-road than the / 60 and /55....comunque I find it unhealthy to change the large brake calipers with other smaller ones ...

I was asked which I wanted when I got mine

Meanwhile, I was told this morning by tire supplier that RWL code among other additional tire information stands for RAISED WHITE LETTERS. That’s how you know if the tire will have white lettering or not.

B, BLK, BW or BSW on the other hand stand for Blackwall or Black Sidewall,

OWL for Outlined White Letters ... and so on. There are bunch of various codes providing different type of tire info.

Im thinking about getting a set on AT tyres for the van, Has any 1 ever seen a set of BFG Ko2's on the 16inch clayton alloys with standard suspension??? Any pictures or advice regarding spacers much appreciated..

Not Claytons but I have a set on standard 16" wheels on my standard (from factory 20mm lower) Caravelle. I think it looks better than the OEM 17" Cascavels but I am putting some T32 springs and KONI shocks on soon as I think it will be more comfortable and look even better to boot! I'll find a pic...

Matthewsn79,

Watch out for the brake caliper size, you won’t be able to fit 16” over the big brakes, sadly... Minimum is 17”! When it comes to my van at least. Multivan year 2010.
