Hi and thanks.

Tyre size I'll have to check and get back to you although I'm sure it in this thread somewhere and its definitely in this one somewhere Luke's Caravelle

I fitted H&R spacers. 25mm front and 35mm at the rear. I think it looks quality but its very close to the sill. If I did it again I'd probably drop 5mm all round. I'll be happier once I've fitted the T32 springs and new shocks.

Matthewsn79,

Watch out for the brake caliper size, you won’t be able to fit 16” over the big brakes, sadly... Minimum is 17”! When it comes to my van at least. Multivan year 2010.

From the factory that is only if it is a T32. Obviously if you've fitted big brakes to a T30 or smaller then you'll know about it!

Its a 6.1 t30 with standard suspension I was hoping to be able to get the tyres on and not have to worry about spacers etc...

Is it a Panel Van or Kombi? If so your suspension will be 20mm higher than mine, if it is the same as a T6, which I suspect it will be. If so, you might get away with it. There's only one way to find out...

Its a Kombi.. fingers crossed and hope for the best I suppose...

I've decided to go with the kmc holeshots but I'm undecided which tyres to go for its between the BFG' s or General grabbers, I've been told the generals do offer a bit of a better ride. What are people's thoughts?? Any info welcomed, thanks in advance...

I can't comment on General Grabbers but I'm well happy with my BFG tyres. The roads in my locale are awful unless you pay the tolls. On the non toll roads the ride is night and day compared with the tyres from the factory.

Very happy with the general grabbers on mine.

When my BFGs have worn out, in about 40,000 miles, I might try some General Grabbers!
When I ran GG AT (the old pattern GG not the current AT3) on my T5, it wasn't the tread depth that was the issue in terms of the tyre wearing out; it was a "Saw Tooth" pattern that cured on the edges which made the tyres very very noisy with age. I had the vehicle 4 wheel hunter laser aligned a couple of times, with no issues found.
The "Saw Tooth" created a drumming resonance at certain speeds which was awful.
Hopefully this won't happen with the new pattern.

we always try and recommend the general at3s on a van , they are a brilliant tyre, the bfgs are great but a little overkill for a van but look better

Hey guys, thinking of lifting and fitting BFGs or GGs on some 16" banded steels.
I use the van mainly for mountain biking and camping trips, sick of scraping up rocky tracks and getting bogged down in camping fields.

Just wondering if anyone can give me am idea of how badly fitting said tyres kills the MPGs?

Most of my trips involve a fair bit of travelling and road miles before I get anywhere that I need any sort of off road capability.

I've a 102bhp T28 so I feel abit of a fraud fitting off road tyres to a 2wd, but I do like the 40+ mpg I currently get out of it.

I'm pretty sure I should have plenty of clearance going back to standard suspension with a 235 70 16 or similar tyre fitted, is anyone else running standard height and if so any issues?

Cheers in advance!

Hi,

I have T30 DSG 2wd and Im getting around 36mpg on motorways, running on 235/70/16 Pirelli ATR standard steels. I have 30mm drop and still no problems with the clearance.

Hey everyone, just ordered a set of 16" 8.5j banded steelies from Dutchy Banded Wheels, I can't decide between the BFGoodrich AT and the General Grabber AT3 to go on them.

Thinking 235 70 16 for the above size and width.

Any pics from anyone running either of the above on steels to help me decide? Heard great things about both tyres but any more input would be massively appreciated!

Cheers in advance folks!

Hi, mine are not banded, just regular 16" VW steels with black hub caps and BFG A/T.

I love them, no problem in the wet or snow, they are winter rated, the ride is much smoother on the rough roads in my locale, their great for getting off the beaten track (even though it's a 2wd), they look cool, negligible effect on economy despite being 6% larger rolling than the OEM wheel/tyre combo and I can live with a bit of extra noise. Once I've been in the van 2 minutes I don't even notice it.

Thanks @Rupie, make sure you get some pictures shared.

Theres a couple of good swamper threads on here. If you search for "off road wheels and tyres" there is a good thread with loads of useful info on wheels/tyre combos.
