Best deals on a new Transporter?

Hi All,

I have posted in the Camper/Day Van section but thought i would add to this section as well. The prospect of me ordering a new T6 has gone up markedly because of the price increase coming in and i want to try and make sure i get a good deal... have so far been quoted around £45k but would like it to come down further. My spec is,

Van
T6 Kombi, T32 Highline, 204, LWB, DSG 4 Motion

Options
- Metallic paint
- Diff lock
- 6.33 composition media
- App connect
- Tailgate with heated window and wiper
- Front and rear parking sensors with reversing camera
- LED Headlights and rear lights with daytime running
- Front factory fit swivel seats
- Comfort Dash/with carpet
- Wing mirrors, folding
- Power latching for passenger side sliding door
- Power latching for tailgate
- Windows to all panels - slide opening window to rear seat windows, fixed window on rear sections)
- High beam assist
- Adaptive cruise control
- 80L fuel tank

What do you guys think?

Also have spoken to dealers about T6.1 and they all say they have no idea when it will be out as they are the last to know. From the info i have seen online it seems that is unlikely to come out this year...

Thanks in advance for help!!!

CZ.

45k for that? Nip into the Audi dealer and ask them to match this..

Audi Q7 Diesel Estate 45 TDI Quattro Sport 5dr Tiptronic
Compare to the Kombi in terms of spec. Anyone else think that VW have gone beyond taking the pizz?

Check the road tax on that Kombi as the rear windows might see it taxed as a car not a van.

Wait for the T6.1 and buy from a broker. 45k for that is a joke.
Hmmm, where would you go for a quote then? I have been up to dealer zin Yorkshire and Cardiff and a few others... I am hoping to get it down by a few k but have struggled to find cheaper - so far...

Nationwide cars. Or Bognor Motors. Look for 15 to 18 percent off list price.

But seeing as you asked for advice...I would hold off buying and wait for the 6.1.

Buying from a dealer gets you no additional benefits unless you have an unusually exceptional dealer. Most VW dealers do not give a toss once they have your signature on the order form. As for Goodwill once the warranty has finished...dream on.

Buy from a broker at the biggest discount and have it serviced every 12 months or 10k by a VAG independent specialist.

Thanks, I was feeling a little bit rushed by the 1.5% increase coming in... and the impression that i had with regards to the release timing of the T6.1. I am planning to convert whichever van i get into a camper. I have spoken to Bognor and am waiting for them to come back to me - the chap i spoke to seems a lot more genuine than the VW dealer lot...

Yes, i think so. its still bloody expensive but i think its not to bad. Just over £44k. I'll save around a grand on the conversion with regards to the windows, 2-300 on not having to change the front seats.hopefully sell the back seats for around £750 so the £44k will turn into around £42k.

I ended up going to VW dealers around the country, brokers, online and others and got the best deal i could... Now the wait begins... :)

Hi buddy
What a spec!!!!!
Don’t want to panic you but I nearly went for rear fixed windows behind the sliders until my dealer advised me it could get classed as a passenger vehicle ????
giving it car tax eg ...the first year would be about 1500 then 450 a year there after..
My dealer only said there’s a chance of this and I need to be aware..so I removed this option in the end he also said it may delay the van due to checks regards the vehicle type????
.after reading your post I was wondering if you’re dealer also to you this....
Just to make sure I called a few dealers and they gave me the same answer..
Id give it a check with your dealer just to be sure

Conversion costs are ??????

So we are probably looking at a £60-70k van - nice one, must be a record out there somewhere for a privately owned one?

Hiya,

Wasn't advised either way, but as no seats back there so we will see. I will have it re-classed once conversion is done anyways... fingers crossed will be okay ...

Yeah something like that. have started conversion spec:

  • Full insulation and carpet lining silver/mid grey/anthracite
  • New ply floor, lino, side step, rear lock cover

  • Side kitchen layout
  • Reimo Variotech 3000 seat bed system (120cm) on rails with 7 fixation points
  • LWB roof and cross bars silver/black fixings
  • LWB Thule wind out awning
  • Dometic HSG 2370 Smev 9222 Sink and Hob Combination Unit
  • Waeco CRX50 compressor fridge

  • 12v power management system, split charge, 2x 12v socket 240v hook up,1x 240v socket and 10m hook up cable
  • 300w solar panel to roof
  • Leisure battery x2
  • heating - Eberspacher or Webasto
  • SCA, Reimo or hilo roof - decided...
  • underslung gas if possible with external bbq point
Haven't finished it yet but happy to take advice - particularly for the roof. I am worried about head room with the hilo. The Reimo has a 'comfort' mattress option with springs...

And then i have to find the convertor... takes a lot of time this but demo worth it. Want to do the north coast 500 next easter!

I would have omitted the factory swivel seats as having had both I find the height adjustment available with standard seats + Sports Craft swivels with the raised swivel fitment to enable easier under seat battery a better option.
I would fit more than one 240v socket just for the flexibility, I fit two doubles one double behind the driver's seat and one double in the wardrobe face.
I also fit four 12v sockets (two front & two rear) although I am considering changing one to a double 12v USB outlet. As you will see from my signature my campers have all been LWB high-roof models, the best having Reimo roofs.

I was a bit unsure about the seats but opted to save money and get the factory ones for now. Can always sell them on later. Nice camper and history, looks like you enjoy a project!! :)

Yes the current T6 (on a LWB Highline 140ps Kombi) is my fiftieth conversion during the past 15 years. I did order a 140ps T5 new from a dealer and that is the one that I opted for factory swivels on but missed the height adjustment. All others have been dealer pre-reg vehicles at the best deal that I could get at the time.

If you are doing your own conversion adding extra electrical sockets adds very little extra cost but adds a lot to the flexibility.

The Eberspacher is great, last Saturday night at Stanford Hall the outside temp dropped to 1.4 degrees but inside it didn't drop below 14.5 degrees, there is nothing like having home comforts! I bet you will struggle to do that with an elevating roof up.

I manage to squeeze in a CRX65 fridge by a bit of modification in the right side panel and a table into the sliding door again with similar modifications within the door.

Rear seat / bed is always Reimo, the T6 has a 333 fitted.

Only time will tell but will get one of these for the pop top, Insulated Pop Top / Elevating Roof Cover / Wrap - VanShades

I have the factory swivels and find them fine without height adjustment. I already feel I’m sitting higher than I’d like and I can only assume the height adjustment adds even more height even at its lowest setting, unless you go for one of the low seat bases to compensate. But then you can’t fit a battery under it.
