The answer is...You can but it's not easy.
I told my experience if someone want to do this
I follow this thread instructions.
The adaptions set is possible only Odis ( maybe also VCP not tested) because VCDS can't set all channels. Odis adaptation set method is different.
I use Audi A3 mirror partnumber 81A857511G rimless mirror.
So I crossflash mirror software 0010 to 0003 and then I set all the adaptation channels correct values.
Many thanks to member mmi. He give me full HBA admap. Without this retrofit would not have been possible.
When I install the mirror a new problem occured.
Audi's mirror fastening is different so I had to exchange it from old mirror. You can see the difference from the picture. Lower one is from the Audi.

Hi M.R78.
Thanks for posting.
Can you please share a bit more?
Can I use the designated instrument cluster CAN wires to cross flash? (i.e. no need to connnect to other CAN bus to reflash and then connect to instrument cluster CANbus as per the wiring diagram).

@Ali-G, @Trouts - T6 is based on volkwagen PQ25 platform.
Many new Volkswagen vehicles are based on MQB platform. The parts from these vehicles are often superior, easier to find and cheaper than the parts for T6. However, these parts are not always compatible with T6 out of the box.
In this thread we're talking about rimless interior rearview mirrors from MQB platform. You can find a nice rim-less mirror with HBA (high beam assist) but it won't work on the T6 unless you reflash it with a different software. To reflash, advanced software and hardware is needed such as ODIS engineering and VAS 5054A adapter.
Hopefully now it makes sense.

The mirror in my photo is 3G0857511AE 9B9 which is indeed an MQB mirror that was installed in Golf 7. I bought it for 150 EUR to install in a T6 and will need to learn how to re-flash etc, needless to say I need to source the hw and software that I described.

If you're not into this kind of manipulations, easier is to go with PQ25 HBA mirror:
  • 7E0857511F
  • 7E0857511G (rimless)
  • 7E0857511E

I found all necessary information and flashfiles here.
So if your mirror hardwareversion is H09 or H10 you can crossflash 0003 software and set the all adaptation via Odis ( or vcp not tested ). Vcds can't set the all adaptation channel.

thank you @eugene that makes much more sense(sorry you had to explain that in 'idiot' terms)

Looks like I already have the right SW flashed on the mirror which is surprising because the mirror was declared as from Golf 7.

Would you be able to share the full admap please? My VAS5054A is on the way, expecting it next week  (VCDS was useless as you stated - it didn't recognise the mirror to load the right ASAM/ODX).

Hi all
Can anyone supply a wiring harness with the 2 canbus wires and connectors to be used on a retro fit hba .
Only reason I ask is I am rubbish with putting the small connectors on the ends of the wires .

Yes, I have the right color wires and connectors. Pm me

I've been having a go at this upgrade/retrofit over the last few weeks - pretty sure I've got the hardware/wiring part all done correctly and just some adaptations/coding tweaks left to get it working correctly.
Thanks to @eugene for the advice and for putting the wires/loom together for me and sending it out really quickly!

I'll give some info about how/what I've done in case it helps anyone else looking to do this, but also there might be a couple of things people more knowledgeable and experienced than me can answer to help me finish of the adaptations/software side?

After reading this thread multiple times, I took the plunge and bought a Seat Alhambra rimless mirror (3G0857511AK) from ebay for a good price. It's the same one (hardware/software versions) that is detailed on the drive2.ru website and once installed, shows the correct firmware (0003) and ASAM version (EV_HighBeamAssisAU316 = PQ) for the T6.

I got what I think is a really good deal on the mirror - ended up only paying £57 after vouchers and a partial refund due to some small scratches that I hope I can tidy up or live with - Pardon our interruption...

I installed the wires to relevant pins as detailed on this thread, the thread linked further up and in @eugene 's video. After this, when plugging in my obdeleven, module 20 /High Beam Assist was listed (hadn't previously been there) and the mirror details were as follows.

After setting the adaptation settings detailed in the various threads/video (channel 53 and 54 to 1 and headlight type to LED for both low/high beam), no error codes are showing and pushing the stalk back once turns on HBA and gives the icon on the dash.

So far all looked good.

I took the van out a quick test drive in the dark. The high beam switched on as I hit 58km/h, as per the settings, then off when speed dropped low enough, however when passing cars travelling in the other direction, it almost always didn't switch off high beam. Problem!

I went back through the long coding options and noted that while "Steering" was set to Right Hand Drive, the "Left/Right hand drive" was set to Left Hand Drive. (see below)

1000051961.jpg

I have since changed this to Right Hand Drive as well, and have also checked that every single setting in the coding section matches those in the admap that was shared by @M.R78 above. Every single setting was already exactly the same as the admap (all 200 or so of them).

I took the van out again, but typically I didn't pass another vehicle coming the opposite direction in about 10 miles of my circuit back, so can't confirm if the change to Right Hand Drive in both settings above has worked. I'll update again tomorrow once I've done this.

If it's still not correct, the only other thing ai can see that might be worth trying to change is the options in the long coding section (incline angle offset of windshield, dimming according to SAE J565, etc).

Current long coding settings are:

If anyone reading this notices anything obvious that I'm missing that might help me to get it all working as it should, your input would be much appreciated!?

Update.

So I've tested again tonight with the settings above, but still experiencing issues with it not working correctly. The high beam comes on correctly at 58km/h and off at 20km/h. It sometimes switches off correctly when car is coming the opposite direction and it sees headlights, but mostly doesn't. Even when it does detect a car in the opposite direction, it is late to turn off high beam.

Would anyone be able to show me their long coding settings (like above) for high beam assist on the T6? I'm particularly wondering if changing the "incline angle offset to windshield" is needed, so keen to see if that is -8 by default on the factory settings?

I'm wondering what I should try changing next to get it working correctly?

As I said above, I have no fault codes and the mirror is impacting on the high beam switch on/off at time, albeit not correctly, so I'm fairly sure the hardware install is OK and with correct coding changes I should be able to get it to work?

@Robert replied to me a few weeks ago on another thread that "OBDEleven will allow you to apply all required adjustments(coding/adaptations)" - wondering if you would be able to offer me any help or advice?

The OEM HBA - 7E0 857 511 F - factory coding as decoded by OBDeleven. For a LHD T6 (MY18) driving on the RIGHT side of the road.

Have you checked what your HBA has in the adaptations?
