Cubby hole ideas

What is the rectangular blanking plate underneath hiding, would be a great spot to add some ambient lighting mods if there is any space behind it?

Didn't T5 owners replace that part with red cabin light consoles that came out of Passats?

Me too I'm convinced that blank plate has potential. Luckily this forum has some very clever on it.

I went for the a3 module as I know it's used in a few different models so hoping there's somewhere to mount it but from previous experience it's tricky as you have to blind drill a couple holes that need to line up exactly with the LEDs will see how it goes

Sorry for posting to an old thread - anyone got any idea how to remove the inner liner ?
Are there any power line i can hook up to ?

only be useful to have a 12v -> usb charger from there for my dashcam..

Cant you take power from the interior lights?

No there is not a permanent supply on the lighting it times out after a while to stop you getting a flat batt if you leave a door open or an interior loght on

TBH I'm not sure if I had to guess I think always
I would guess (and it is a guess) it will time out 10-20mins after the last activation event which is any door opening or closing or any motion of the central locking system

I might have to leave one of the map reading lights on when I go to work tomorrow see how long it lasts

I have a 4 hour drive tomorrow. If I remember I'll leave a map light on and report back.
I'd be interested in fitting more USB charge points as mine has the comfort dash and only comes with 1 usb in the middle glove box.

My initial thought would be why would you want a usb there but if you have a pop top it would be ideal spot to plug the phone/tablet or torches into. Once we all figure something suitable I might look into 3d printing a front panel.

Now you say that the map lights are always available when you are driving so a running engine must override the timer relay so my guess is probably wrong ??

Actually - for me - having it go off with the ignition wouldn't be a bad thing if its powering a dashcam :)
I was also thinking about getting something 3d printed to go on the front - dunno what yet - but I like playing with arduinos and other micro controllery type things - so I can think of a few possible displays :)

Still interested to know how to get that liner out so I can take a poke around..
