Diesel Night-heater hot air outlet

The two holes under your seat look to only be in a piece of aftermarket trim panel which could easily be remade with only the outlet hole. If as @oldiebut goodie says the inlet is taken from under the seat base no additional hole is necessary. However do make sure that a grill is fitted on that inlet to prevent items entering the heater and fouling the fan.
This is what I have at the moment, so basically I could pop the intake side off, and refit the vent and just keep it under the seat ?

Thanks for all your help, bit disappointed in the conversion company to be honest. Trying not to think about what else might be wrong.20220521_121211.jpg

From how I see that photo I understand that the heater has been mounted under the floor. If that's the case then it would have been just as easy for the installer to have placed the inlet fitting in the driver's door step. However I may have interpreted the picture wrongly.

Yep thats how I see it, hence why I'm perplexed as to why they have done it this way, it almost seems easier to have drilled through the step!

Hi,
I have a 2018 T6 and I’m installing a diesel heater externally, under the drivers seat area.
With a leisure battery (& chargers etc.) installed under the drivers seat, where should I have the hot air from the heater coming in the van?
I’ve seen some conversions with the hot air vent coming through the floor, just behind the drivers seat - has anyone got any drawings or photos showing where to cut the hole in the floor and how the ducting runs under the floor?
Thanks

My heat outlet comes up under the seat. I think there would still be space for a leisure battery there Although mine is in a cupboard at the back of the van. I guess that did not help you :)

Thanks for the input, but the leisure battery takes up the total width across the back on the seat base unit, so there isn't room for any air ducting.

My drivers seat is the heat outlet, inlet in the footwell. My leisure battery sits under the passenger seat.

I brought mine up next to the B pillar as it suited my layout and I also had no room left under the seat. It was also easy to locate the position under the van and made for an easy duct run.

Hi Dave,
that location looks like a posibility
thanks

Has anyone got any photos of the hot air vent coming through the van floor somewhere behind the parking brake? Ideally from both inside the van and from underneath.
thanks

Trying to come decide on the best place for the night heater outlet.

1. Under the seat and out through the seat base back.
2. Straight up through the floor behind the seat/in front of the units.
3. OEM b pillar outlet.

Would be particularly interested to see pics of the ones vertically up through the floor, as well as your thoughts plusses / minuses of each.

Even more so if you have a higher floor due to California/Caravelle rails etc.

Mine comes up under the seat base and out through the seat base back.
The negatives I’ve found are;
It makes it slightly more of a challenge to fit equipment under the seat in and around the ducting.
The factory GND stud under the seat stud was removed as it was right in the way of the ducting entering from under the vehicle.

Thanks. The reason why I am considering other options is I have a sub under the drivers seat.
A bit surprised there are not more opinions on this.

I went under the seat for the outlet but the intake in the OEM position.

I didn't like the idea of taking strength out of the B pillar without beveling the edge like the OEM hole does to put rigidity back in.

I've fitted mine to the B Pillar standard factory parts, however, If you're thinking of fitting a typical camper furniture setup with the fridge behind the drivers seat it may cause issues as the majority of the heat will get blown onto the cabinet side that the fridge it fitted to! Just my 2 cents :)

with the floor opening fitting (post 4) isn't there a risk dust and other bits fall into the pipework?

It’s been there for 3 years and I’ve not dropped anything down it so far and I run it monthly so dust does not have much chance to settle :)

Here’s one we’ve done with the outlet in the floor. It’s positioned between the front seats. It just happens to be in a ply floor too. The floor isn’t raised like yours, but as the outlet is entirely in the ply, rather than straddling the ply/cab rubber, it could work for you.

Ours is in the side of the drivers seat base, in front of the handbrake. Something we'd never even thought of and it's how the converters fit it. It means the space behind the drivers seat / the end of the furniture is available for the windscreen cover and the simple flysheet awning we use.
