Has anyone ever regretted buying their van?

Anyone had second thoughts? I like my T6 but I'm not sure I like it enough to justify the near mortgage sized financial ball and chain that has come with it! I've only had it for 6 weeks... Have I f****d up here??!
I think this is a great thread/question! I’ve been there.... questioning myself over spending so much money on what is in effect a commercial vehicle! But no, you haven’t f##ked up! As others have said, I think timing has got a lot to do with it.... it’s winter, long dark nights don’t help, and then boom.... lockdown again! Better times will come, and when they do you’ll be glad you’ve got your T6!

We have a caravan on the east coast, only used probably for 3 months
Camper on drive doing little
But last January we bought another motorhome to use in winter months, after saying we weren’t buying another with 500 mile on it used twice

Regret it no

Great thread....i'd wanted a camper for years, then came into a bit of money. It was either put it into a savings account for.001% interest(as my parents did who i inherited the money from)or go for a van....i must be a bit different from my old man!

Life’s too short.... spot on @Andyf.... you can’t spend it when you’re gone! No regrets

Thanks everyone for your thoughts.

I really enjoyed doing my research and the
excitement of buying the thing, and now that it's sat on the cold wet driveway (usually in the dark when I see it) it's all a bit of an anticlimax!

And it doesn't help when my wife points out that for the same money we could have had a house extension or a round the world trip. She'll eat her words when I finally treat her to a weekend in Anglesey!

Cheers all!

Don’t spoil her with a campsite, there’s a nice free spot on the beach next to Wylfa nuclear power station in Anglesey.
It wasn’t until the next day I noticed the power station.

Have to say the hunt for the right van is exciting and took me months... spec choices, must haves, colour combination, wheels... throughly enjoyed the experience. Now it’s here I only wish I’d joined the gang sooner. I only collected in the summer and during this crazy year has stalled a view trips, but amazing already, sleeping on the drive with the kids during lockdown, cooking breakfast with friends before a round of golf when the facilities closed, sleeping on my families driveway when I couldn’t stay in their house, fishing with the kids, wild camping to play links golf at sunrise, a nice brew after a long walk. Better than any shiny car can offer and looking forward to 2021 adventures (;

I love mine! I still have quite a way to go on my conversion as I am self converting but that is part of the fun! It has been really fun doing this and I have made some good memories on some of the trips I have done. We did the NC500 last year and I was constantly smiling.

The only thing is sometimes I look at cars as I am a bit of a petrol head and think of Golf R's and stuff but you can't match the feeling of exploring in the van and it is my little man cave.

Had quite a few squeaky bum moments leading up to buying the van as a solo venture. Awaiting its conversion at the moment. It’s a big deal but the way I see it life is waaaay too short and it’d be more of a regret not giving it a go while I can :)

Since I‘ve had a campervan I haven’t used a taxi or hotel, after many months of travelling that adds up.

Your Mrs is spot on mate. Tell her I have £25k to put towards the extension. plus you'll sleep easier....

Panadonkia gets used almost everyday, as it's not just a camper but the daily driver. There was a lot of ball ache and head scratching along the way but now that it's finished, I enjoy walking up to it and seeing it each day after work. Its nice to see what it is now in comparison to how it started out. Puts a smile on my face. As long as none of those little yellow engine management lights illuminate on my dash, then its no regrets this far.

You can't live your life full of regret! With cars or Van's in this case it's always the same. You pay to play but you are paying for the enjoyment.

Some people say "it's just a car, it's a waste of money" and because it's an asset sat there they can question it's worth. The same people will spend 10k on a cruise, 2 weeks later all they have is memories.

My only regret is not buying one sooner. We spent our entire budget on the van. Well, wifey did anyways. I wanted a 15k T5. She wanted a T6 auto with 4wd, which kind of specified a 30k T6. I've not driven our Saab Aero since. Im a natural van driver. I used to love our old T2 Devon when it was roadworthy, which for 80% of the time it wasnt.

Our only issue is that we spent our conversion money. All of this a few weeks before lockdown last spring. I've only managed to sound deaden and thermally insulate so far, fit speakers and leisure battery. We're saving for poptop and RnR.
