Has anyone ever regretted buying their van?

Interesting subject.
I bought my first van on Dec 3rd having researched and bottled it for about a year. Think we all have days where we question such a purchase but we went to beach on New Year’s Day and had a picnic in it and we’ve been to a local hill to do some sledging and had hot vimto afterwards in it so already the family is enjoying it. Like most have said but probably coz we are on a forum so biased, sit tight and wait for the good times. If not there is such a market you’ll be able to shift it no problem and lesson learnt.

This is a great thread guys.

I to found the initial excitement of trawling the internet for the van I wanted so much fun. When I finally found one and went to collect it there was a Maserati same year, same price parked next to it!

I can honestly say the next few days I had reservations but the more time I spend with it the more I love it.

Cannot imagine being without it.

Wot? You bought the Maserati instead?!!!

Ha ha, that’s something else I sometimes do, think what car I could have for the same money that the van has cost me.

I was expecting my third VW camper (a T6 Hillside Birchover) when I joined this forum, and reading the endless stories of woe did make me nervous as mine have always been 'keepers' for 10 years or more. I saw so many posts about failed DMFs, EGRs, cutting-out, flat batteries, leaking seals, leaking windows, cam belts, error codes, adblue problems, crap headlights.... It did make me wonder if I'd done the right thing. But of course if everyone posted "my van's ok today" every day, the 'bad' posts would disappear way down into the noise. I really love my van, I just wish I was allowed to use it!

Thanks everyone for your thoughts.

I really enjoyed doing my research and the
excitement of buying the thing, and now that it's sat on the cold wet driveway (usually in the dark when I see it) it's all a bit of an anticlimax!

And it doesn't help when my wife points out that for the same money we could have had a house extension or a round the world trip. She'll eat her words when I finally treat her to a weekend in Anglesey!

Cheers all!

That's the point for me. Its a multi-purpose vehicle for a bit of everything. My regret was buying the car I later chopped in to buy the van I really wanted and wasted 5G in doing so. It's also my retirement project so I'm in no rush to get it completed but I sorted the interior first off so we could use it as soon as possible.

The cosmetics will happen over time but I must admit, I like the fact the van doesn't stand out at the moment.

Anyone had second thoughts? I like my T6 but I'm not sure I like it enough to justify the near mortgage sized financial ball and chain that has come with it! I've only had it for 6 weeks... Have I f****d up here??!
I took early retirement and my money was not earning much and I had free time. So I traded in my 66 polo GTi for a 67 T6 trendline campervan conversion. Would have loved a new Golf R but my wife wouldn't allow however the campervan idea suited us both.
We bought outright use it as my daily driver and our weekend tourer (when allowed)seen parts of UK I would not have driven to for just a day out.
Due to good residuals if we get sick I should still have enough to buy a second hand car to become my daily driver but hoping that never happens now I'm kinda hooked on the van life thing.

Wifey has always wanted a Jag and in particular the new F-Type. I mentioned to her what we could get with what we had for the van and she nearly swayed...glad she didnt. I like loud bikes, not loud cars.

The beauty of bikes is I can hide purchases easily. My 20yr old 916 is dripping with exotic stuff bought over the years and shes none the wiser. I have a 1299 too and thats got some nice bits on that she'd never notice. Tools too, as shes banned from the garage. She doesnt notice new tools or equipment. I've got a small compressor due and can offload that straight into garage without her noticing. Muahahah. If she does notice, I say its for the van now. Muahahah.

I sometimes do when half my take home goes on the finance and saving to pay off the balloon payment. Will like it even more in 5 months when it’s all paid off and I have a spare grand every month. But always happy when driving it and heading off on adventures. Was having a look online at the new Audi S3, would love one but know I’d always miss the van

Be careful. They notice far more than they let on. It’s all banked then will be thrown at you in one hit when you probably deserve it! :slow rofl:

This is very true. My bet is she knows about all your 'secret' purchases, but chooses to keep schtum ;)

The cost of a T6, garage full of tools etc is nothing compared with splitting your joint equity with a pissed off wife who’s had enough of the double life. Always tell the truth and expect the same in return.

Mmmhm. I'd love to be able to hide a bike in the garage. But if I traded one of the bikes in as deposit on an Indian Scout, she'd notice her Gixxer thou...... had gone missing.
