Heater only working at maximum

Apologies in advance but I have the same problem on my T6, could somebody post a link for the relevant replacement part? Thanks

Great thread guys, picked this up from VW earlier, same day £46+ and it seems to be a quick fix for the heater control only working when on speed 4. 2016 T6 with 21k on the clock

Bought one of these over a year ago now for about £6-7 in anticipation. Weirdly I’m quite looking forward to this happening so I can use it and be inwardly smug at avoiding a VW priced dealer fix :p

Setting 1 seems to be the issue, I’ve had two fail and now on the third plus after reading @mmi comments about avoiding setting 1 I’ve had no further issues.

It must be down to component tolerances, mine is coming up on 4yrs old and is left on setting 1 all the time, except when it’s really hot in the summer.

I seem to remember people did this on the Vauxhall Zafira when the factory resistor failed, only instead of fitting the correct part with built in protection, they or their garage saved a few quid by fitting a much cheaper Mickey Mouse part and wondered why it burst into flames when the crap part failed.
THEN started blaming Vauxhall for something, as it turns out, had NOTHING to do with the factory part!!
The reason they are more expensive is when they fail, they have protection.
Good luck taking the chance....Only don’t blame VW if it bursts into flames.
I would rather pay £46 rather than risking a 40K van.

As it turns out, mine was done under warranty as it is a 69 plate with 15K on the clock, always on position 1.

Will keep it on position 2 from now on though after reading other people’s experience.

It’s a VW part

a much cheaper Mickey Mouse part

The copy parts also have a thermal fuse. It is just a shame that VW have not been able to engineer this component correctly over multiple generations of different vehicles.

The resistor pack will get hotter in position 1 because of the highest voltage drop in this mode and, therefore, maximum heat dissipation. Add to this a higher current from a cold fan motor with stiffer bearings and it will fail the thermal fuse during the first minute or so from starting.

Hey you pay your money and make your own choice. Bet those burnt out Vauxhall’s wish they had put a genuine part in, yes they fail, but when they do fail, it is not quite so dramatic.
The part will be bought in from Bosch of whoever, VW themselves don’t make that part.
Thanks for your advice on how a series resistor pack works, I think, but not sure that is why it sits in the airflow.

Hi,
Having left the van unloved and unused for a few weeks, I have driven it today. I noticed that the fans on the heater are not working properly. They are only working if turned up to the top setting and blasting the air out. Has anyone come across this before? Are the lower fan settings somehow on a different fuse?
Any ideas greatly appreciated.
Andrew:(

Fan resistors are a common failure. If so, the fan won't blow anything on the lower settings, on full speed.
