Hillside Birchover

I understand the wiring diagram is well out of date compared to how mine looks in reality.

Guess it’s the nature of the beast, and probably easy to ‘read/ understand’ for those with electrical skill, i managed to wire in an MPPT/ IP22/ Lifepo/ shunt/ dc toDC/ with HUGE hand holding on this forum, even then was getting some oddness so paid for an inspection and some remedial work

Your wiring diagram would indicate that the hot water heater can be powered from the 12v supply when the engine is running?
Yeah mine can. Think because it’s older model. I was chuffed when I realised that. When I asked hillside whether it would work that way (amongst other questions) they advised ‘no, only on EHU’. I think it’s a great feature. Drive to somewhere. Have a hot shower or have hot water for washing up in sink, boom!

@Chris1983 And again. It’s the same 2015 drawn diagram in my owner pack for my July 2023 Birchover. I’ve mentioned it a couple of times to the HL folks about providing an updated version but never heard anything further. When I get a dry day, I’ll test those purple wires to see if they’re switched and if so, which switch controls them. I’ve been trying to think what option (that I don’t have fitted) that could have been connected to them.

Like @EAN my van doesn’t have a 12V water heater. I can only assume that Hillside deleted the 12V water heater option because of customer complaints about flat leisure batteries or worse.

UPDATE:
I tested the two purple cables with the female spade connectors and both are permanently live (+ve) appearing to be fed from the leisure battery.

Oh gosh, colour me worried by the ‘our worse’.

I have solar and dc to dc into a 105ah fogstar, so hopefully the LB will be fine. And professional has just audited the wiring and stuff and reported all safe!

In case it helps anyone, this is my first attempt to update the 2015 dated Birchover electrics schematic (with the 12V water heater circuit deleted and substitution of the VCR) and generally to reflect the actual circuit installed in recent conversions particularly T6.1 Birchovers. The lack of wire colour references is annoying to say the least and I will add this once I’ve explored the van’s physical electrical topography a bit more. All comments and corrections welcome.

Thanks for doing the update to the wiring diagram it will be very helpful

@Camper_Chris please be aware it’s very much work in progress and it’s NOT a definitive document. It would be good to get input from you and others who have explored the electrics of their recent Birchovers to reflect and document the differences to the earlier 2015 document along with wiring colour identification. Then we could have something to refer to in the absence of anything from HL along with suggestions for connection points for retro-fitting equipment such as DC-DC chargers, MPPT controllers, etc.

Having had a bit of a struggle removing the panel to access the electrics panel in the rear wardrobe of my Birchover I thought I’d add a couple of stainless steel handles to make it easier next time…

Going by the pics, it looks like the door has a slightly bigger gap on the left-hand side whilst the right-hand side looks like the gap has closed up completely. If that’s the case then I’d be inclined to unscrew the hinges and see if you can ease the door to the left using a thin piece of plastic in the gap on the right-hand side to push the door to the left and then tighten them up again. Otherwise, it may need a bit of careful carpentry.

To see where the door is sticking put a bit of chalk around the door then close it and see where the chalk has rubbed off.
