how T6 compares to new Renault Traffic?

just curious as I have just very good offers for both cars, never owned a French car though.
2016 T6 with almost no mileage almost same price as 2020 brand new renault after recent discounts...
Hence the dilemma.

I ran a 14 plate Vivaro (same as Traffic) for 4 years, and its was an excellent van, despite reviews on-line.
I covered around 120,000 miles, with absolutely no issues, and it was very good on fuel.
I've since added a 67 plate Vivaro and its also been good, no issues at 40k miles, although I think there a pig ugly van.
Unless you want something high power, I would not buy another Transporter as there so pricey. I know there is the argument about residual costs, but mine are vans, not campers and get used/abused.

thanks Neil, I will test drive one in that case. Build quality and finish looks a bit worse then T6 but as you said it's van to do work, not passenger car.

I would agree. The build quality feels slightly less on the Vivaro.
The side door dropped on mine, but the same happened on my T6.
The Vivaro was approx half the cost of the equiv T6, and is the Vw twice the van ? No
My lads actually prefer going to work in the Vivaro as its more comfortable.
But, if you were going for a 204, then there is no comparison.
One thing that is a bonus with the Vivaro, it has compartment which can be opened through the bulkhead for longer loads.

I also run a Peugeot Expert.
If payload is a consideration, that are best in class.
Really nice to drive, but again, build quality is not as good as Vw.

And it'll be worth jack all when you're done with it

It doesn`t need to be.
It will run 150-200k and be used by an employee (my son), who won`t really care much about it.
Mechanically, it will be well maintained, but the body will get a battering.
By the time im done with it, about 4-5 years, I could give it away as it will have paid for itself many times over.
You pay your money you take your choice.

I don't see really that much of a difference in prices on used market between Renault and VW.

Hi Motif,

The fact that you are asking the question on a T6 Forum suggests that your mind is made up but are lacking confidence on the final push. We have all been there :). Between the two vehicles i would say it is like comparing apples and oranges. If you would like some advice - a better option would be to post the spec of the VW T6 you are considering with the price and ask for opinions. Think that would help you more.

If this is purely a work van with no intentions to mod / upgrade (play with) then perhaps the Renault (or Vauxhall - think they are the same van) may be the better option for you.

All the best,

CZ.

hi, I am looking for panel, cargo van (3 seats) and not really looking for conversion etc
although I may adopt it to be able to sleep in there with my motorcycle :)

What is the rest of your spec/demands from the van? If it is just to be used as a workhorse then go with the Renault and have the warranty with it.

Hi ..just throw my penny worth in....it’s a bit like when buying cars ..you can’t really compare Fords to BMW different markets but as you
@motif say it’s to carry you motorcycle...so I’d say the difference between the T6 and the other is down to how strong the van‘s structure is ..how strong the floor points are when carrying ur bike ....the VW can take a lot of being pulled apart ;)

How much do you value your bike ...if it’s your baby keep it safe and secure......In a T6

problem is I have VW already , Tiguan '14 4motion and I love it :) build quality, motor, handling etc hence my interest in transporter.
The only scary thing is for me quite a few posts here and other forums about problems with adblue system, which can be expensive in repair.
Didn't find anything bad about adblue with Ranault or Fiat though. Do they have better SCR implementation?
Traffic is better equipped for sure but Transporter have most I need except the parking sensors and cargo floor lining.

Almost all European road vehicle manufacturers use Bosch DENOXTRONIC system as a SCR so no difference at all.
No vehicle make is better or more reliable then other in that sense.

If it's a 2016 T6 it could well be Euro 5 and not have the adblue. These will have been registered up until the end of August.

And ref the Fiat - Ducatos were running a low pressure EGR system for Euro 6B and didn't need SCR.
