'Inspection Now' message

On mine first inspection at 2 years (or 40000 km), then following ones in intervals of 1 year (or 40000 km whichever first).
By the way, the early inspection/oil service message on dash seems to epidemic, quite a few also up here, started late last year.

Van sitting on 37,000 miles, last serviced in January on 24,000 miles.
MFD saying Oil Service 12600 mi / 468 days, Inspection 12700 mi / 454 days.
My service manual puts me on a Q18 schedule which seems to be annually/20,ooo miles.

Can somebody tell me when my next service should be due? I've got a few things coming - front tyres, tax, probably brake pads and first MOT and I'm trying to spread the work out between now and Christmas, the service indication popping up in that interval might elicit some bad language : -)

Most vans are set to Long-Life 18000mls/24mnths by the dealer.... But I've noticed if you play with the MFD it defaults back to 12000mls/12mnths (which I've done twice now....oops!)

  • You can choose from two types of service regimes at VW Van Centre (Hatfield), depending on your driving methods. Your VW van also has the benefit of a service indicator on the dashboard to remind you of when a service is due.

  • Service Regime One: Fixed Service (Time and Distance) – the first of 12,000 miles or 12 months
    • Recommended if you drive less than 10,000 miles a year
    • You drive your van mainly in town centres / heavy traffic
    • You make frequent short journeys
    • You often use your van for towing or heavily laden
    • Your driving style involves hard acceleration and braking
  • Service Regime Two: Flexible Service (Long Life Service) – the first of 18,000 miles or 24 months
    • Recommended if you drive over 25 miles a day
    • You often use your van for long distance journeys
    • You rarely tow with your van or use it to its maximum load capacity
    • You adopt an economical driving style with minimal engine loading

This is interesting as I have just had a call for an oil service pop up on my MFD - telling me due in 3kmiles or 30 days.
Van is currently on 14k miles and almost 18 months old which doesn't fit in with any of the accepted schedules?
Now the 3k miles will take it to almost 18k - ok I get that.
But presumably the call for service means 30 days or 3k miles, whichever comes first. So the 30 days will mean the van is 18months which doesn't fit with the 12/24 scenario.
???

My kombi will be 2 years old at the end of this month and has done 14k. The service count down has started on the dash this month. So that is correct with the service schedule 2 years.
It will be service the Saturday. I did the oil and filter at 12 months anyway.

Thanks Dell, although none of the service regimes above (12 or 18000 miles) fit in with my service books 20,000 miles or the van's current MFD information. I've got the van in next week for tyres/brakes so will speak with the service desk at the garage.

Mine came up with the 30 day message at 12.5k miles which will be 20 months old. Does seem to be a bit like roulette.

Does the T6 also monitor oil quality? Some modern engines can change the service interval depending on how a vehicle is driven. A lot of relatively short journeys / limited mileage will promote an earlier service interval?

Just turned the ignition on to be greeted by a vechicle check reminder in less that 30 days. Guessing I need to take this to VW now to keep up warranty?

yep, small, big, small, big etc etc etc.

so assuming you on long life service interval . . . . . . is 20k miles or oil quality service.

Very helpful, thanks a lot. New to VW.

If it’s the first time you have seen it then it may be asking for inspection and not service dependant in what service intervals you vehicle was initially set too

Forgive me if im being dim here but im getting a notice come up on the dash saying 'inspection in x amount of days' its on a count down to round about the point i will have had the van about 18 months ish?

Its thrown me a bit by saying inspection?....of what??

18mths is about bang on for its service. . . . see below.

Ah ok many thanks, should almost be Xmas day according to the countdown...wonder if they throw in a mince pie :D

RE: Dellmassive. You commented that if you play with the MFD (multi-function display I presume) then service interval defaults back to 12000 miles/12months . This seems to have happened to my T6 (starter model). Are you able to be more specific about what you changed in the MFD to cause this. All I've changed is the miles per hour/kilometres per hour speed display option which appears in the mileage reading section when vehicle is in motion (for continental driving). VW have reset service interval back to 18000 miles/2yrs but I would like to prevent it happening again if possible.

i cant remember exactly . . . but it wasnt from just changing the mph/kph etc etc...

it might have been pressing the reset button or clearing the service millage when the service screen was displayed on the MFD.

I had an oil service at Imperial Commercials, Nottingham at just under 20K. ( i had done my own oil change at 10K)

Now, after only 7k, the dash readout is saying "Inspection service now!" I'm assuming that the morons there have altered the servicing regime from long life to time/ interval, as a thank you for my business... The van is only used about once a fortnight and does easy motorway runs to London and back, so its hard to believe its due.

Does anyone know which service the "Inspection" is- interim or full ? Ta
