@Pauly it would be good if you could be the guinea pig and see how hard it is to separate the digitizer from the LCD I took the metal surround off but didn't try separating not sure if its stuck similar to mobile phones and you may need to warm up to loosen the glue?

Its just small torx bits you need something like a T10 & T6 don't quote me on exact sizes thou as I didnt look! I've ordered the digitizer its from china so can take up to 6 weeks to be delivered I will have a go at fitting and post the results when I get it
Yeah im up for it, are we confident that the above link is the correct unit ?

Not confident at all its from some dodgy place in China so who know what will turn up  its got the same numbers on it as mine so fingers crossed

Yeah it was the 00039 and 00045 numbers i was looking at (which seem interchangeable), is this the numbers you matched up ?

I swapped the display on mine as it developed the ghost touch jitters and became unusable and I still have my old faulty one in the garage, may see if I can fix it up for someone
Where did you get the digitiser from Pauly? Was it a composition or discovery unit?

I got lucky and knew someone that had a bricked unit and he gave me the screen before it went in the bin, it was/is a discover media unit

If you are not far out of warranty or its been an ongoing issue then VW often do a 70/30 split and brand support covers 70 and 30 goes to dealer which is normally charged to customer, remember its the dealer charging you 30 so it costs them nothing (they are actually getting paid to do the job) so its always worth pressing the dealer for a contribution !

Personally not sure i would go down the road of a dealer replacement for one of these, there are several companies selling these units that will drop into any vans with all features (like app connect and voice) unlocked for a fraction of the cost they are charging
Hi, my media head unit is getting worse by the day. Interested in going to an independent for a replacement. Does anyone know of a company in the Hampshire / Dorset area?

March 2016 Caravelle exec with 24k. Large display. Started with it phoning wife randomly last week. Then changing radio channels. Then screen looking like areas were being pushed. Sat Nav was zooming in and out. Now screen and ALL buttons unresponsive. I can change radio channel on steering wheel and make phone calls from steering wheel. I have tried all the tips on this page to no avail. Gutted.

So I've attempted to remove the digitizer with no success it appears to be fully bonded to the LCD and I cant see a way of separating it without it breaking so Im going to look for a complete replacement screen to fit once I have a new screen I will rip the old one apart and see.

Unfortunately I also seem to be suffering the screen 'ghosting' problem, my unit is 2016.... Part # 5C0 035 680C

The first sign was a dead spot over Preset 4 (I usually have 'view' set to display the row of 5 radio presets).

Next the navigation map started jumping around erratically requiring re-centering and then radio stations started changing on their own, the presets started moving to the next set of 5 on their own, it started randomly phoning people when I was using the phone and it re programmed a radio preset on it's own. Very quickly it was pretty much unusable.

I was able to buy a replacement screen from a guy I know but he didn't have time to fit it so I did it myself. It was surprisingly easy, once the unit was out all I needed was a set of precision (very small) torx. I was confident that I had fitted it correctly with no problems.

The new screen didn't fix the problem for me and the ghosting is still happening. It's nowhere near as bad as it was before and sometimes I can do a trip with out it happening at all, but other times something will happen. So far it's been the nav. map jumping, the presets moving to the next set of five, the reversing camera display changing to parking sensor display when still in reverse and the wrong radio station selected when switching on.

I would like to try another screen just in case the new replacement is a dud but the guy I got it from says that it won't make any difference and the problem is now that a chip on the board is faulty, so I now need a new board.

I did speak to satnav systems about fitting just a screen and they said they would want to fit a new motherboard too due to the other issues (ghosting ect) it seems these 2016 units are garbage.

I've went for a Kenwood replacement via Absolute 5..just waiting to fit it this weekend.

I’ve tried looking for a screen can only seem to find some ropey looking ones that want around the £200 mark so not going to bother as its not guaranteed it will solve the issue going by what others have said so maybe go for a Kenwood at a later date.

Thanks for the info, interesting that SatNav systems wouldn't fit just the screen on it's own, did you get a price for screen and board replacement?

I think you are right, our units do seem very unreliable which is a shame because I really want to keep mine, I much prefer stock to after-market.

Something I forgot to mention above is that since I replaced my screen I have noticed that the overlay quite often appears when the reversing camera is on the display. The overlay is triggered by the proximity sensor so it shouldn't show unless a hand is near the head unit. I don't remember it doing this before the screen was replaced, and wouldn't have thought it would have anything to do with the screen.

I'm just going to sit tight for a while and see what happens. I read a post back on page 2 or 3 of this thread where someone said theirs was bad, or worse, when something was plugged into the USB. I've done a couple of short trips recently with nothing plugged into the USB and it has been absolutely fine with everything working as it should. I do plug my phone in on longer trips so we'll see what happens, I will report back.

Thats really bad news, what a shame you couldn't repair yours.... that would have been an excellent solution for very sensible money.

It will be interesting to hear if @Pauly has any luck with his junk screen....

That’s interesting, my unit was completely unusable then a replacement screen has made it fine again
I received my digitiser a couple days ago but haven’t done anything with it yet as short on time

VW Vans at Preston quoted £2960! I have a replacement head enroute from Retrofit South West to exactly same spec as what was fitted.
I now have my original head unit and cannot decide what to do with it.
