Power Latching retrofit

So will the wiring/plugs be there in theory (on tailgate) @Pauly , so it just a matter of fitting and connecting the right bits ?

There are two cables that run from the BCM in dash through to the tailgate, these cables need to be interupted in the roof space and run through the new tailgate control module which fits above rear wheel arch behind panels, this box also needs a 12 volt supply then a few wires over to the latching mechanism/motor that operates the striker plate
The motor needs room to fit in the floor so the tailgate threshold trim strip needs to be replaced with one to accommodate the motor underneath.
If successful i will make up some cables to run between motor and module and some more cables to run between module and roof, im lucky that i already have a 12v supply in that area so that will be the only additional bit of cabling to sort for others, but this is all theory at the moment will know more when i get some bits to fit

I defiantly want the tailgate doing, almost overtime I have to do it twice. Either I am getting weaker or its the fact that for 5 years I had it on my Eclass and am just used to dropping it and letting the motor do the work. Either way its very high on my to do list.

Is there any different wiring in the E6 model to the E5 you have found in your fine retrofitting jobs or are the looms basically the same? The reason i was wondering is because as i have said before the folding mirrors operate different on my E6 to the E5 i had?

I am interested too ,my van is in bits at the moment ,no pannel or head lining in .

Not really found much other than mirror folding and mirror heating, there may be more but have compared module part numbers and stuff and they all appear the same, the only bits that are different are superseded parts, ie if you order it for an E5 you get the E6 variant

As @T6dder the kids drive me mad with not closing the sliding door properly so retro power latch would be a god send.

Side door would be nice as the Mrs drives me nuts either slams it to hard or not enough, allready got it on rear hatch
Or retro fit electric sliding side door :)

I too would be interested in this as it can be dificult to close when carrying 4 bags of shopping and a child....
Don't think power latching would help you to close the rear hatch with 4 bags of shopping and a child in the other ,only helps to make sure it engages and closes properly

I have no problem with my tailgate and never shut it with force, even with the slowest movement for the last couple of inches it closes. The side door on the other hand is a pain, don't remember the T5 panel van being so hit and miss.

Thought I would try out the tailgate power latching tonight, spent a while out in the cold and dark wiring it up and getting bits fitted, last job was to remove the striker plate and screw the new motor down only to find out the new unit is a few mm thicker and the existing screws are too short so had to switch back to the normal unit
Will have to see if I can get longer screws so I can finish it off over the weekend ?

Fine work again @Pauly , don't no what the temp is down your way but bloody freezing here, you are keen, being out side in the late evening, but i suppose its better that watching crappy soaps on tv !

I have power latches on side doors ,the only reason I didn't get tailgate is the tailgate is opened and closed a lot some days . I wasn't sure the power latche was needed but I end up shutting it two or three times till it latches on the second latch .
@Pauly ,would it be possible to tap into side door wiring ?
Also is the tailgate Power latch on the door or the striking plate .

Quick update - tailgate power latching is fitted and working, not overly difficult i would say install time is around 2-3 hours as a couple of interior panels have to come off
Havent got time to go into detail as heading out shortly but i think this could be a DIY job for those interested

Add it to my order, im sure i can get it fitted even if i cant do it. Annoyed i missed it off in the first place !

I must be lucky because I don't have an issue with the tailgate at all really. Maybe 1 in every 40/50 shuts it doesn't latch properly and I use it frequently every day. The side loading door is another story completely
