Review: Leighton Vans

Well... at 9o U.S gallons an hour your tender may not even get one of the engines started, I'll do the math and get back to you on the coatings but we can split it between eight of us if I leave the minibar out !

I'm happy to take the Indian railroad approach and attach myself to the skid if that keeps the cost down.

View attachment 5978 View attachment 5977 Morning Simon, yep I picked it up last Friday I can't seem to get onto their instagram site for some reason but I'll try and upload a picture here for you.

Nice looking. As they are 20" rims .... what brake calipers have you gone for there ?

All the after market quality brake upgrades I have seen require a minimum of a 19" rim. How have you get around the issue of the fact that the spare is a 17" and the carrier cant take a bigger rim ??

Expensive. Salesman could not be bothered to call me back after I expressed an interest in one of their used vehicles (1 yo with 25K on clock). Did me a favour as I bought a new van, personalised spec., for less.

Do you mean expensive compared to a standard VW dealer one with Manufacturer available options only ? ..... or expensive considering their start point van spec, plus all the tarting up they do, body kit, wheels, springs, interior etc and then an unreasonable mark-up over that ?

U decide. I am giving my feedback, as asked - if you are happy with their offer then good for you.

I found the same.

Sorry I don't get your attitude....

You said they were expensive, so I was interested in why and what you had found. I just asked a civilized courteous question about your experience and you say "you decide" .... this is a Forum about sharing experiences and thoughts. If everyone said "you decide" to every question asked, where would the value in this Forum be??

Where did I say "I was happy with their offer" ?? I am evaluating their offer and was asking for your help and input .... what do you mean "good for you" ??

I emailed them and they responded pretty quickly, I was looking to spend £50-£55k, but after asking a few simple questions their responses dried up and I went elsewhere.

I suspect turning up in person may get a better response, but LV and Swiss both felt like they were knocking out vans on a conveyor belt, which they probably are and that’s great for them, but not quite what I wanted when investing a shed load of money on a new bus.

@Insert Coin .... interesting, you were certainly at the top end of their product price range and they should have been more interested obviously.

I couldn't agree more with your "conveyor belt" conclusion. I think they are genuinely selling a shed load. If it's true, their estimate to me was that, they are doing 30+ vans a month and are seen as one of the UK's biggest high end Transporter retailers by VW. I guess it also depends what time of year you approached them. New reg is going to be mental and they certainly seem to be right now, as they have so much stock curtailing wait-time for '18 reg hopefuls. So, it's like, "join the queue Sir" !

In consolidation of your observations, I think their business has got to the point where they are literally overrun with people turning up with £50k - £60k to spend, which translates into what we have both experienced and also, there is no deal. That's the price, if you won't pay, "we'll sell it to someone else tomorrow". Rather ironically, first time I locked onto a stock van of theirs and started to position for a negotiation, they showed very little interest and to my utter disbelief, they did actually sell what I was looking at the very NEXT day over the PHONE

I think everyone would agree with you, myself included, that when you're doing £50k - £60k , it's got be a whole different level of sales and service support from the supplier

I think the level of service and support should be the same whether your spending 100k or 30k, you might get better coffee or flapjacks but excellent service should seamless.

Sadly this doesn't happen, my wife has a 2017 Range Rover, it's been terribly unreliable and the dealer is hopeless. It's on 9 visits back to the dealer in 12 months and always come back with the same faults plus a few new ones.
My business has 4 Transit Customs on lease, the local Ford dealer are the most incompetent people I've ever dealt with, and the vans are crap too.
Conversely, we have 10 Transporters, my Touareg and my new T32 and the local VW dealer (both commercial and retail) have been absolutely brilliant and I cannot fault them.

Bang on the money - I agree, completely. There are some very strange ideas re customer care out there and, having tried to explore other options, I went back to my dealership and got the service you expect when paying just shy of £50K.

My recent experience with Leighton Vans I have to say was very good, I dealt with James the salesman, he was helpful, asked many times if I was happy with the way the van was spect, wheels seats, side bars etc. It's true I found they are not willing to negotiate discounts, but they will work with you if you want extras to what is already on the vehicle. I have no concern recommending Leighton Vans, I drove up there from North Wales for my first visit and went by train to collect, they will deliver nationwide (I read at no extra cost), yes it's a lot of money to part with for a Kombi Van but it's the one I wanted and that's that, longtime dead etc. I did call other van specialists and experienced similar attitudes to those listed in above posts.
All I can say is nothing to lose, always good to shop around.

I ordered my van through Leighton and waited 6 months for delivery (selling my T5 in the meantime). I had not contact from them during the manufacturing time but when I contacted them to ask for a delivery date (after 6 months) they told me that the order had been extended another 5 months! I have a feeling that they simply sold my van to someone else. I re-ordered through VW Carlisle and got my van through them. Michael Leighton did call me, but he didn't really do anything to help. If you're setting your stall out to be better than VW then you need to do it all. I would also say I asked Swiss Vans for a quote and they took all the details but never sent a quote!

Buying vehicles is always marginally disappointing I think, especially for a petrolhead!!

@DaveF Wow .... Six month waiting list for your T6, then plus another 5 months. Longest I've heard of anywhere is 3 months. We all like a T6 but they aren't McLaren's or SVO Autobiog's!! Something very strange going on there.

My experience of Leighton is that they will bend over backwards to secure clients at their price point. They are a huge customer of VW (UK). They have 100+ of the highest end new vans in stock at any given time (I've seen them, it looks like more). So, if they don't already have what you want, I just can't see VW messing Leighton around when a customer places a custom spec order.

Shame you had such an odd experience because their after-sales is outstanding as well IMO ........... and by my own admission, I'm OCD about my cars :D

Same here. Loved my experience of Leighton. Although didn’t ask them to secure a van. I just chose from their existing list.

They’ll be kicking themselves that they let you down...
