So I sat in a new Ford Custom (T7 Transporter) and here's my thoughts.

I may be going against the trend in this thread thread but personally I’ve driven various vans all my life and my 6.1 is the nicest van I’ve had. I think the closest other brand would be the Vito I had before this one but when I got in this van for a test drive I immediately loved it. - Just my opinion.

VWs share value and overall commecial value as a company still dwarfs every other single car brand on the planet, including Ford.
Surely that's the group value? Including Audi, Skoda, VW, Seat, Cupra, Porsche etc etc???

This is a report from a German news agency about concerns regarding VW.
Seems the workers, via their union reps, have got a deal to prevent any plant closures in Germany until the end of 2030 at least…
No lay offs of the 120k employees in that time and even a pay deal. Not bad going considering how bad it looked at one point.

As I said before though having the state and Porsche as backers gives them a fair bit of security.

Although they're still being bent over for tens of billions in various jurisdiction around the world over dieselgate so they aren't out the woods by a long way.

To be fair VW are alleged have spent a lot of time recalibrating things like suspension rates, steering feelm etc, to set it apart from the Ford and bestow it with a more VW feel.

I'd love to be able to judge it agajnst the good performing but flimisly made and fragile engined outgoing Transit, but realistically I'd have to wait until I've had a chance to examine one up close to make a meaningful judgement.

Oh no, there was me thinking we’d finally get a van with a decent ride :uh run:

People need to remember these are produced as commercial vehicles with a worthwhile payload, not fashion trinkets for weekend warriors. ;)
True, although my full camper conversion does add permanent weight and the upgraded shocks in theory ought to help.
My main point was some vans ride better than others, and VW isn’t sitting at the top of the list.

I just need to see something that looks better and getsvthe juices flowing... Love my T6 because for me it ticks my boxes. I don't care about weekend warrior comments. I bought in because I loved the look(with body kit, 20inch rims and lowered). Would i like more technology? Hell yes. Would I like a subjectively better ride? Sure. But I want in a package that looks the biz as well. Oh and I also need the multivan config with the second row of seats and the hard back tailgate without windows.... please

Yeah, but isn’t that part of the charm of owning a transporter. versatility and adaptability.
For the cost, you’d like to think all bases are covered.

It’s going to be interesting to see how many orders are made in the next few months.

Prior to my retirement my son bought a Transit that we backyard converted for him to travel to Scotland with his mates. After that I bought it from him and we together bought a Golf TSI. I have driven many cars in my time but nothing compares to the Golf for amazing road traction and just great fun to drive.
The Transit on the other hand was nothing but one issue after another and nor was it nice to drive. When I took it to Ford for a fault I was equally unimpressed with the sales staff / repair manager.
For me - German cars are designed better.
For example the Ford hood opening mechanism is prone to corrosion and sticks so you can't open it. To remove the spare wheel from underneath during a time of already stressful proportions is enough to give you a coronary. The barn door fixtures are prone to sheering off. These are all elements that could be designed out.
I was so glad when I sold the Transit and bought a VW T6.1

Perhaps VW are fed up with converters taking a Transporter and converting it away from their own stock?
