I've got a Sparesafe and am happy that it's prominent position and visibility will make the casual thief walk/drive on to an easier target but, after seeing comments on a recent thread around DPF theft and scroats wrapping straps around and just ripping large chunks away (regardless of the position of our DPFs being pretty inaccessible) I wonder if the more secure we make our spares on the underside of the van the more potential damage someone could cause if they really want it?

Probably plainly obvious to most but can some one explain these items which are part of the spare wheel security locking bolts purchased from the forum shop.
The top image fits over the new lock but if I want to remove that plastic part I need pliers or a 22mm socket bit. The bottom “lug” fits in the middle plastic bit but what are they for? Should they all be connected together in order to remove the plastic cover for the locking bolt?!

That was a verbose post!

I didn't bother with them as I dont want to be in the position of it being stuck on. I just greased the bolt head to prevent corrosion.

Hi all,
As per title some scumbag stole the spare wheel while it was parked in a public car park this afternoon.
Reported it to the police and got a crime number but how much is a replacement?
Is it worth going through insurance to replace it.
Any tips you can share with the best way to proceed please?
Thanks all...
P.s. It's a T32 with the basic steels, never even looked at it so not sure if its a steel or space saver etc. etc.
Just realised today some t**t has pinched mine ,not sure when or where as I've never even seen it before! Brand new t32 t6 18 plate ..fkn raging!

Im not even sure what size wheel it was ,because i got upgrade to 18" when i bought van ...would it have been an alloy or standard vw wheel? If so what size ?

buy a 2nd hand wheel and part worn tyre..
they only steel New ones..
thats what I've done and i wrote on the tyre in yellow ...This Tyre is fooked...
so they get underneath and see my message then dont bother..
lol

As the title says.
I was walking back to the van today and noticed I couldn't see my spare wheel. So bent down and low and behold, it had gone.
However, when it was taken I have no idea nor when that happened. They had actually tightened up the spare wheel holder back in its place. I'm assuming they did the so as to not raise suspicions when I returned to the van.

So, there you have it. It does actually happen.

Now to buy a spare wheel nut protector thingy off @Pauly from the forum shop.

I do have 4 x Devonports but I don't know if a 17 inch will fit in the holder (said the actress to the bishop) ?

I've read a few threads where spares were pinched, including @T6180. I keep mine inside the van, but I guess that's not always possible with campers.
Gutted for you, but there's a ready supply of 17" steels with tyres on eBay at least.

A mate of mine took his Peugeot motorhome in for an mot and when he went to pick it up the tester said "in a bit of a rush to get the spare wheel off weren't you", he thought for a moment and then realised he hadn't used the spare, so the tester put it up on the ramp and some toe rag had cut it off with and angle grinder and took the cradle as well , even my mate said its only a bl00dy Peugeot

Cheers pal. I have 4 x spare Devonports so hopefully 1 of them will fit.
