T6.1 new order delays

I had a call too! My call went from bad to worse! I have been told that the two vehicles which I have paid deposits on are probably built and possibly even in the country. However, VW are refusing to supply them to my supplier! My supplier has told me that my ordered vehicles will now be delivered to bona fide VW dealers so that they can sell them as stock vans! This is apparently because the VW dealers are struggling for stock because of the supply issues.

I have been told that the supply issues were caused by the Germans being convinced that Brexit would reduce demand and so production for the UK was deliberately reduced by 40%.

I have a very long list of parts and accessories and have prepaid for my conversion for one van. I have prepaid for an Ovano, insulating and carpet lining on the second van!

I AM OUTGRAGED!
Delays I can stomach, but your story Samro is really concerning.

And it does align a little with what my third party supplier told me last week. The VW dealer supplying him has suggested that the factory didn’t build any for UK in December (Brexit nervousness). Didn’t sound quite right to me last week, but starting to sound like it may be more accurate than I thought.

He’s had no build dates confirmed and is expecting another update at the end of the month. I really hope that that doesnt tell me that my van has also been given over to a VW dealer to sell as a stock vehicle. That really does seem like an outrageous way to treat customers. But sadly it does also align with what he’d heard about VW wanting to drop discounts to fleet buyers, and offer better discounts in dealers.

Have you been given a new estimated date, or are they just completely welching on the deal?

Sad news that Hermann the sliding window man has fallen victim to Covid, fortunately his apprentice recently qualified.
As a tribute VW Hanover are going to leave the coffin lid slightly open, it was his last request.
He has done an excellent job on my sliding windows they were leaking after only 2 miles from collection

I think I would have done a pretty quick U turn and driven it back and through the showroom windows.

Waiting to get it booked in as there is a back log on replacement leaking windows , they recommend changing them every other day. My last t5.1 also leaked for 10 years! Still the new 6.1 is bloody lovely even if it’s a bit damp

I’ve been given nothing from the supplier, other than a promise that they’ll do their best to supply my vehicles at some point. They seem to be doing their best for me, but I’m really worried that they are going to reach a point where they cannot supply the vehicles at all because of VW’s bad behaviour. When I asked if it was possible that they cannot supply the vehicles at all, they simply said that they thought it would be very “unlikely” for VW to fail to supply the vehicles, but it could take months from now!

It was at this point that I got quite angry, as I’ve waited over 21 weeks to reach this stage. They then simply offered me a full refund of my deposits, and I refused in the hope that they will get there in the end!

There is a tale to why I ordered 2 vehicles, but the main reason is that my company will be installing s**t loads of Victron kit to serve the purpose as a “demonstrator” for battery/domestic systems on yachts. (It’s part of what my company does) As a result, I have several thousands of pounds of kit laying around that was specifically bought in for this purpose......... plus I have prepaid a conversion company a massive chunk of dosh, I’ve prepaid @ChrisR for install of coil overs/exterior enhancements (including sending him parts for body shop prep), plus the fact that I’ll have missed both of the “conversion“ slots by the time the vehicles arrive..... if indeed they ever do.....

I can’t recall another time when I have been so frustrated or angry.

Ordered mine back at the beginning of October and was told delivery would be end of December or the first two weeks of January . Similar situation to a few others on here as in ordered through 3rd party . Very little communication since. Phoned them a few times but they are waiting on news from their supplier. Beginning to lose the faith. I’m having thoughts of cancelling or transferring my deposit to a Crafter and going down that route but would they be having similar production problems as the Transporters ? Or do I stick with it and just be patient ?

Managed to purchase a T6.1 199 DSG Highline 4M with a lot of spec cancelled order collect it next week

It seems to me that a common thing for people with delays is that they ordered through a 3rd party rather than a VW dealer? And the ones who ordered through a dealer are coming through on time or even early.

California Chris on Youtube, who I think is the sales mgr for VW Liverpool, has commented that vans are coming through quite quickly and the ones he's been oredering for stock seem to be flowing in without issue.

that does seem to be a common denominator, I ordered mine through VW Manchester and it seems to be almost on time (as far as I know)

That seems about spot on but the question is..... If you have been waiting 22 weeks to date and got an amazing deal on the discount front, do you stick with it? I have been offered my deposits back, but not sure I can bear starting the whole order process from the beginning! Not to mention the fact that it is unlikely that I could replicate the deal which is currently done with a main dealer. (With the exception of the supply element!)

I reckon you’re right, if you start again you may be waiting just as long. Unless you can get a stock vehicle at a main dealer but then yes, you will probably pay more for it. I can’t imagine other manufacturers aren’t having the same problems too

A comment on the ordering from a Dealer Front; I attempted to speak to my local dealer (in Totton Southampton) five times when I was in the process of attempting to spec and order my vehicles in early August 2020.

On each occasion the phone was answered by a Dealer staff member, but nobody could speak to me. Each time someone was going to call me back. I didn't receive one call back.

Following a quick Google, I found a third party seller and ordering process was seamless and straight forward. Within one day my deposit and order placed. This was a good experience at the time. Just a shame that it is possible that they're possibly not going to be able to deliver!

I know businesses have had a difficult time of it over the past 10 months or so, but I feel slightly miffed that if my local VW Dealer had performed better I wouldn't be in this pickle!

Are you guys that are ordering from a 3rd party, using one of those companies that pre registers the van and then keeps the V5 for 6 months? I know thats how some operate.

Agreed, and unfair that Vw can re-route vans to their own dealerships.

Yes. My understanding is that they buy direct as fleet operators and I understand the V5 thing. Whilst this is not ideal, it makes a big difference on the £££’s.

Although I used Autoebid, the order was placed directly with the VW Dealer who talked me through the order and took my deposit. I am now week 20 and no build date but mine is a passenger vehicle rather than commercial as Caravelle and is suffering with the Rde2 change so might be a specific case. Both Autoebid and VW Dealer have been good on communication but not a lot they can tell me.
