T6.1 new order delays

So, in my quest to get some clarity about what is going on with factory orders, I spoke with a VW dealer earlier who was very open and frank.

Appears that they are equally affected and it isn’t just fleet suppliers. The one I spoke with said that a third of their vans on order suddenly lost build dates recently and only a few have been reassigned a new build date. They aren’t getting any real clarity from VW, apart from the fact that issues are a combo of Brexit supply chain issues, Covid absences and microprocessor shortages. Kombi’s and 199 engines have been a notable issue, although it isn’t isolated to these versions. There is also an issue of adjusting to new emission requirements post April for some models.

So, not much positive news there, apart from the factory is still building them - just slower than we need, and with no idea of when for many of us. And exactly who is lucky and who isn’t, seems to be largely a lottery. Appears I’ve bought the most expensive lottery ticket of my life!

Allegedly, VW may be able to provide some more clarity later next week. I’m not holding my breath though.
Cheers for the info. I just want honesty and to know what to expect.

Hi All, just come off of the live chat and have this... real information...might answer all of our questions. At least it is an answer that clearly states it is effecting all commercial vehicle production.

Thanks for your patience, Gary. I can confirm that all of our commercial vehicles are awaiting the technical data for RDE2 (Real Driving Emissions) compliance. We expect the Product Team to receive the technical data next week. Once they do, your van will then be put in a queue to get a build week.

Fingers crossed Guys (and Gals of course) if this is true then hopefully next week they should start putting together a real production plan. We didn't even discuss build weeks. No point.

Have a great weekend

Thanks @Woodman something a little more tangible form VW at last. Out of interest what engine size is your order? It’s been suggested for a while that those affected by emissions standards were the 199’s. Or are VW now saying it affects all engines?

It's been 24 weeks (to the day) since I placed my order which is a DSG 150, so not necessarily the 199 engine.

Good work Woodman! This gives me an inkling of hope.

Hi Ozi, 199 DSG

It would be nice to see a van on my drive soon but I'm honestly losing patience with the whole thing. Poor show from VW not being able to provide even basic information.

So, some googling reveals that RDE2 standard is mandatory and applies to all engines on sale from Jan 2021. Which begs the question why at the end of Jan 21, VW are still waiting for the technical data required for the RDE2 standard?

Surely it can’t really be this much of a last minute spec?

But all the sales in this thread so far will have been before the end of Jan 21 so this RDE2 shouldnt apply?

Let’s hope so. Its certainly a very logical thought process, but sadly logic doesn’t currently seem to feature in VW deliveries.

I took a look at a similarly titled thread on the vwcaliforniaclub website earlier......oh my word! That really is a tale of woe on order dates. Actually made me feel a bit better as that really is a s**tfest

November 30th order date for a LWB Khombi T32 150 4WD with options from VW dealer. Confirmed build date has been steady at week 6 and confirmed by VWCV chat last week. So that's this Monday... let's see where we go with that!

Mine too, ordered on the 11th november

edit: actually I was told week 5 which I thought was Monday!

Just been on live chat regards one I ordered (but not actually going to have now) and they said that by 8th February all builds will have been allocated a build date, my order was placed 19th January. Will be interesting what they say on the 8th

As said previously on here, I placed an order a few weeks ago, and I'm thinking will I be able to go on our summer holiday in it? But there again, will we be able to go anywhere ? Or.....will I be able to take it to the alps next years for skiing? Hopefully, to both the van being here and being able to go to France, if they'll still have us!
