The shutter applies to an H4 lamp where the shutter toggles between dip and main beam... we're probably just at cross purposes mate... my brains a bit fried tonight after spending half an hour rolling around a carpark trying to get a flat tyred wheel off the wifes car... being a charmless man I did eventually point out that we had recovery membership for just such occasions... should have kept that one to myself in retrospect.:(

Must type faster!

To have them in the THQ lights would mean swapping out the projector for a bi-xenon one, but the inner reflector lamp would still remain, probably with an LED bulb for flashing duties. So with no headlights on, the inner lights would flash, just like they do now. When dipped beam was on, the shutter give an instant main xenon beam as well as the inner lamps.

My thoughts for quad bi-xenons in the factory H7s would actually need to be outer bi-xenons, with inner bi-LEDs, to get around the flashing from cold issues with xenons.
Surely they would just be xenons rather than bi-xenons? Bi-xenons have a mechanical movement of either a shutter or the reflector so that the light stays on all the time and is directed differently depending on whether it's switched to main beam or full beam, hence no warm up problem. You'd stick out like a sore thumb if you had 4 dipped beams anyway, just asking to get pulled.

How many does a Peugeot 3008 have? Or a Golf GTI with dynamic light assist, or various Mercedes models...?

Also, whilst bi-xenons will flash when dipped beam is already on, with the headlights turned off, aftermarket xenons won't flash at full brightness, hence the need for LEDs.

They all have 2. Don’t shoot the messenger, I’m only stating the regulations/laws that apply in the uk.
Good point about flashing when lights off, never thought of that.

When you are out and about today, have a look at how many newish cars with LED headlights that have more than 2 dipped light sources.

They haven’t though. I think you may be referring to the individual LED elements that make up the headlights, rather than the headlight units themselves. My last Volvo had terrific headlights that turned on and off individual LEDs automatically to illuminate different parts of the road depending on steering orientation and other traffic. They were really brilliant, as were the ones in a previous E class, however they still only had 2 dipped headlights, in compliance with current uk regs as posted above.

Edit: or maybe you’re mistaking DRLs for dipped beam lights?

We could go on all day, but I must refer my learned friend to the Peugeot 3008.

Whilst you cant be sure that this picture shows the car with dipped beam only on, I can assure you that it does.

That's a rare picture - I'm presuming it was taken just before smashing into the back of another car or going straight into a tree. When I search for a 3008 picture, this is what I get:

To anyone who might be considering the upgrade to THQ headlights, I'll shortly have a set of mint condition V2 (with the dynamic indicators) with Philips Ultinon LED bulbs for sale. They'll be available shortly after Christmas, once I've fitted my OEM LED headlights. I'll be looking for £300 with the bulbs, £250 without. I'll also post in the for sale section.

It’s on full beam, PSA are not dumb enough to produce a car that did not comply to local laws. Yeah there’s no point in carrying it on, I don’t care how many lights people fit, I was just trying to help. I’ve stated the facts and shown the proof so I’ll leave it at that.

Thank you for your concerns Andy. I've forwarded your comments to BMW, as it appears they didn't get the memo either.

Anyway, back on topic, the replacement bells and whistles HID arrived today. So in they've gone and so far all is good. No flickering this time. Yes, the close up has a yellow tinge, but then so do the OEM xenons on my Tig from certain angles.

For those that haven't seen my earlier posts, I've gone for 35w, 4300k.

I'll take that. I think I've finally found the sweet spot, for dipped beam at least.
