Maybe I'm being even thicker than usual but were you allowed to stay because it says 'Van with Side Windows' on your V5. If so, maybe there is an upside to the DVLA fiasco!

Also save yourself a proverbial fortune at places like the National Trust car park at Dunwich Heath. They charge cars (and presumably small vans) £5.50 but a whopping £15.00 for a campervan! Whatever the cost difference though, I have to say I think this is scraping the barrel for upsides. But I’d love to see them scratching their head when a V5 is presented.

Or you could join the NT and park for free. Saves me a fortune as I live in the lakes

We shall look forward to Franco67 future report on the matter eh. Please keep us informed.
I will for sure Urbanfox ,

Does that mean that you bought the van yourself and that it is currently registered as 'van side windows' but will be changed to 'Motor Caravan' post-conversion? If so, please report back in due course whether Camper King managed to get the V5 changed. If they do get the V5 amended post-conversion, it kind of indicates that DVLA are applying a different rulebook to big conversion companies than to smaller outfits and / or individuals which would be nothing short of discrimination.
Just bought the van as a van, I still don't have the V5 BUT I presume the V5 will show as van, as soon I get the V5 I will send/take to them as requested when I ordered the conversion , and have a look at their web site on the web address above

When travelling abroad yes
I had the law totally on my side with van/side windows on the V5

Yeah, I can understand taking it abroad but, in the UK, I would have thought the police would have the necessary registration details on the Police National Computer.

I guess the local authority / parking attendant wouldn’t, which is probably more likely where you’d encounter the V5 van / motor-caravan argument.

Regarding carparks, I imagine one day they’ll just place up signs stating ‘No overnight camping’ or something similar.

I know some councils do get the data because I used to work for the company that supplied the reg plate look-up codes for them. Once the attendant types the reg number into their devices the body style, engine type and size etc should be available for them to see. The police, councils and insurance companies were the biggest customers of that data. I guess it's probably the private parking companies that you'd have some trouble with. I've no idea what data (if any) they would use.

And yes, the 'No overnight camping' signs have already spread like a virus, particularly around the coastal car parks.

Its the same now at New Brighton on the Wirral, there where always a few Motorhomes parked on the front, overlooking the Mersey, overnight but the No Overnight Parking has gone up. They now park a short distance from the front for now.

That's a shame. I was born in Birkenhead and spent many great days at New Brighton.

Has anyone managed to get a reclassification to motor caravan recently?
Just sent away a 30 page pack this morning showing why my t6 lwb conversion has the look and feel of a motorcaravan.
If the refuse im going to buy stickers for the side

My T28 is also being FULLY converted by Camper King this month (should be ready by the 1st week of November) with pop top I have waste outlet and diesel heater exhaust on the drivers side along with water and power inlets, they have the V5C for the van and told me that they will deal with it and the change in the V5C , hope they will be able to sort it .
Hi did your V5 get changed. I was speaking with camperking and they said they cant donit anymore.

That's going to hurt them. I've asked a number of converters and they change the subject. I hope soon they all come out and admit what's happening - they're the people who stand to lose most from this. Did Camperking say what steps they would be taking to get the DVLA to change their minds?

They just admitted defeat i think.
Did yours get completed?

I'm not at this point yet, but I don't admit defeat... I've brought about govt change sin the past so I'm not too pessimistic here. It's partly a question of waiting until sufficient numbers of people are pissed off, but also of showing that there is a path to success.

I like your attitude. My converter completely a very simple document , wasnt great picture wise. So i done my own. Probebly about 40 pictures. Documenting the build showing the van bare shell to the complete.
I even showed drop out vents, bike racks etc etc.
The argument about needing to identify it incase of a crash. What about electric vehicles , is that not more of an issue.
Anyway , il see how i go . I've priced up some stickers that literally say VW Motor Caravan .
Then i dont see any way to debate it . But id rather not put stickers on my van
