Victron DC-DC charger issue

Seems to be all sorted now. 2 issues, 1 was set up on the orion wasn't correct it should have been set to charger rather than power supply as stated above. The reason that didn't fix it initially was the incorrect setup front smart shunt to leisure battery so once i changed that the charger works once the ignition is on and not when off and all electrical items work in both cases. I ran the fridge, lights and phone charger for about 20mins and soc on smart shunt dropped to 97%. So hopefully good to go. Thanks for the contributions i wouldn't have figured it out otherwise

Wonder if anyone can help. I have a victron dc charger fitted and it's been working just fine for the past 12 months. Got in the van today and it's being a bit odd. The input voltage is just sat at 12.5v, had my lights on on the way to work and this usually pulls 13.4v, but the charger is still showing a fixed 12.5v. Also when coasting or slowing down the voltage isn't moving either just sat at 12.5v. I've reset the app, uninstall it and installed it again but still getting the same issue. Anyone got any ideas as to what's going on?

Got a pic of the app?

It might be set to charger mode?

Assuming you have a vic Orion.

It can be charger mode.

Or

Power supply mode.

As you say it needs to be charger mode.

Eg.

I have it set to charger mode. Managed to get some screenshot of the app. They are with the van running and the lights on. The only settings I've changed are switched to charger mode, agm spiral battery and smart alternator Screenshot_20231021_075304.jpgScreenshot_20231021_075240.jpgScreenshot_20231021_075232.jpgScreenshot_20231021_075224.jpg

Looks like charger is off as the van starter is sitting at 12.5v which is below the charger switch in voltage.

Fyi 12.5v from the van is normal for a smart alternator which a charged Battery.

Having the lights on might not be enough to kick the alternator into higher power.

Have you got an ignition feed tithe charger on the H/L pin?

The charger has been working just fine for over 12 months. Usually with the lights on the input voltage would at least show 13.4v. I know it wouldnt start charging until it hits 14v, but the voltage isn't even changing when I am coasting to a junction. The van has been sat for a couple of days so I'd have thought it might of wanted to top the start battery up a little

Forgot to say I've not run an ignition live as yet, keep meaning to but just not got round to it. Once the voltage goes over 14v it's always kicked the charger in to life

Have you got a second volt meter on the van to verify the starter battery voltage?.

The Vic shows 12.5v which is normaly a charged battery..... So you will need to check.

Or turn on all your electrics to make the alternator just up to 14v.

.

Also when start stop kicks in the input voltage read out doesn't drop whilst it's restarting the engine just sits at 12.5v.

Not got a multimeter with I'll check when I get home what the start battery is showing

Maybe try doing a hard reset on the victron.

Disconnect all the cables from it and leave for half hour.

You could pull the starter and leisure fuses.... But also unplug the H/L block as well.

Assuming the unit is fully responsive via the app..... Have you tried changing the settings over to power supply mode. Then back again..... Or changing battery settings to something different and back again?

All very wooly advice ATM ..... You need second battery monitor or voltage meter to get proper readings.

If I'm going to be doing that I may as well run an ignition live. Any idea which fuse it will be and what gauge wire do I need?

You can use a fuse tap from any of the center line of fuses from the dash SC fuse box..... They are all ignition feeds.

Or go to the BCM for the engine run signal.

Checked everything with a multimeter, the voltage going to the victron was different from the app. So pulled the fuse from in-between the starter and victron disconnect the leisure battery from the charger. Left it for a bit plugged it all back in and working perfectly again . So thankfully looks like the victron just lost its reporting function and a quick turn off and on again sorted it. Thanks for the help
