VW All-in plan

My Crafter has just smiled through its free inspection check at VW Citygate in Colindale.

As I was offered 10% off the ‘All in’ deal, I’ve signed up.

For those considering doing so, here are the details.. (and yes, I appreciate that cheaper services can be had elsewhere..)

Costs without ‘All in’
Two services
Service major. £378
Service minor. £192
2x MOT. £110
2yr warranty. £?
2yr recovery. £?
Total cost £670

Cost for ‘All in’
£31.70 per month x 24 = £760

So the extra 2yr warranty and 2yr recovery is costing me £110 or just £55 per year.

I'm still very undecided whether to go down the 'All In' route or not when I get to the 3 year point next Feb. I'm anticipating that I will, so I have my last service on my current service plan booked 5 days before the end of my warranty, so they can do the All In validation check at the same time as the service and fix anything that needs doing whilst there are still a few days of warranty left. I've told them just to do the 3 year brake fluid change, as I know that will be needed anyway for acceptance. I So I'm all prepared and have everything ready and in place.

My issue is that I have been badly burnt by small print on an extended warranty before (not with VW). Like many, I have modified suspension and a non standard wheel/tyre size. The small print conditions for All In are very clear:

This Warranty does not cover any injury, failure, loss or damage caused by, arising from or in connection with the following: Vehicles modified in any way from the original manufacturer’s specification

Just because a dealer has accepted a modified vehicle onto the plan doesn't lessen in any way the validity and legality of the clause above. In the event of a claim it won't be the dealer authorising the repair it will be VWFS. I really do have concerns that, let's say, a gearbox failure will not be covered because of non standard suspension and/or wheel/tyre size. It would be quite straightforward for VWFS to make a case that a gearbox failure is 'in connection with' the aforementioned modified components and hence reject a claim.

I guess we won't really know until someone who has purchased the product with a modified vehicle needs to make a significant drivetrain related claim.

For now, I'm going to carry on mulling it over.

I’m aware of potential VW trickery and forked tongue stuff, but thought it was still worth it esp as I’d probably get them to do the services in any case.

I tried to get the “All in” check done whilst in warranty, with a few days to go and VW declined. Apparently it has to be out of warranty to be valid.
You could leave it overnight and get them to service it on the last day of warranty ?

@Oldrat the check is valid for 7 days and is being done 3 days before the warranty expires. The plan is I can then just sign up for all in over the phone the day after warranty expires. My understanding is that the check can be done in warranty but you can't actually sign up until out of warranty.

I had a couple of weeks between warranty expiring and inspection. It passed (last week) and they even cleaned the van All signed up now. Redid my calcs and recon I break even compared to independent garage and cost of European recovery for 2 years. So if I do manage to make it out if the UK, that's pretty much free warranty. Whether that's actually worth anything remains to be seen, but not much to lose as far as I can see. My tyres are within OEM size though, and Pendle has been put on hold for 2 years.

This great value,I've just paid £ 1850 for an extra 2 years warranty on my 911,they price matched Asda for 2 rear tyres (yes Asda !),then a major service, total £3850..

Mine will be 3 years old next month. All in, or new suspension?

I've still got 1 service left from a previous plan, which I'll loose if I take up the plan, which makes it more expensive too.

Do you lose it? I thought someone on here had it rolled over?

Mine is 3yo in June, so will make sure to get 2nd one done at the same time as the inspection.

Plan first for me, for the warranty mainly.

Then CRS!

@CRS Performance did my suspension and I still for the all-in plan signed off. They cribbed a bit about my suspension so I popped up the road (2 hours) to see Chris. He had a look, got on the blower to VW and they rolled over on the spot!

The dealer told me I would. Mine was only serviced in December, so having it done again to use up the already paid for one is as good as loosing it anyway.

What's the service deal whilst it's still in its first 3year warranty ?.
Service plan while in warranty.

If you can wait till November they usually have a Black Friday deal.

With no extended warranty, I don't see the point of VW servicing, so won't be taking out an additional plan.

I guess by that statement, I've answered my own question. Suspension it is then.

Just checking, not sure if you have misunderstood?

I linked @Reedspeed46 to the service plan for vans in warranty, the All In the thread is discussing is the Warranty plus Service plus VW Assist (I think?).

Although suspension sounds more fun :slow rofl:

Am I right in thinking that if I take out the 2 year extended warranty etc, covering my van from year 3-5, I will be tied to having my drive belt and water pump change at year 4, the VWUK recommendation ?

I'm personally leaning to leaving it until the van is 5 years old.
