VW closes T6.1 order book today (3/3/23) !!!! - T7 Next? or T8?

Looks like VW is going to push the T7 Cali so maybe the nugget will be the only manufacturer option for a full sized van anyway. Hopefully though this will lead to good aftermarket options available for the VW ‘T8’, maybe even some a bit cheaper than today!

Jerba did a video yesterday were they mentioned they are now working with Ford and the transit custom, also mentioned working more with the crafter. No mention of the transporter

It occurs to me that if it's pretty much a rebadge and a minor face tweak we may not see the usual test things, because the Transit versions would have done enough mechanically.

Interiors and some grill/bumper work could all be done in house with far less chance of public leaks?
I thought that up to now, but reading this would suggest it's a ground up design.

independant rear suspension, narrower body, wider side opening, lower roof height.

That all adds up to a completely new shell at least.

Well obviously, nobody has seen the new Transporter, it’s not even been spotted out testing with camo on so it’ll be a long time until converters get their hands on one.

If you ain’t vat registered as a plumber the is CIH (cash in hand) is going missing. I don’t know too many who aren’t. I do work for the second in command in NI for Vat and he says,” Plumber should be vat reg or something isy” That or your not charging what you should be charging!

Average plumber single guy/girl should be doing minimum £120k turnover if paying themselves their wage at correct rate and that before Gas quals which would push it higher.
Heavens that's good, l am self employed doing domestic appliance repairs and my turnover is only £50,000
Perhaps l should re-train
I have to say though, my call out charge is £40 (people won't pay more, any more and l lose business "l'll have a ring round" they say)
There's always someone who will do a free call out it seems.
My friend who is a gas engineer charges £95.
He's so busy l've been waiting five months for him to service my boiler.

That's somewhat misleading, turnover is dependant on labour and materials used, so that £120K needs to be broken down into labour and materials costs.
A plumber doing heating or bathroom installs all day long could easily rack up £50K or £60K a year or more in materials, leaving £60 or £70K for wages, van, fuel, tools, insurances, training, accountant, time lost due to jobs going tits up etc etc which seems like a reasonable wage.
Some plumbers are on labour only contracts, so their materials costs are zero.
Some are doing fault finding, repairs and service work, so their materials costs are low.
But there are some plumbers who are creaming it due to a supply shortage / affluent areas, and it's a lot easier to jack up the labour costs in a high end job, you could throw on an extra £10K to a £50K bathroom without the customer noticing.
Virtually all the sole traders I know are not VAT registered, and as we work in the domestic sector we don't want to be VAT registered, as the customers cannot recover the VAT, so immediately would become 20% more expensive. If your turnover is close to the threshold, there is no need to do cash work, just get the customer to supply the materials, and then it's not in your turnover. OK, you don't earn a cut out of the materials, but then the customer is responsible for any faults, failures and missing parts.
If the cost of living, and materials keep skyrocketing, but the VAT threshold increase doesn't match, that'll push more trades into VAT, or create more cash work.

Where are you based then. l am in the Stockport area and have been at it for 37 years.
l started with TV repairs and moved on to white goods in 2000
Added dishwasher repairs in around 2010 as so many people were asking me to repair them.
I think they are my favourite appliance to repair because of the challenge.

@lightning I’m based in Suffolk and been repairing white goods for about forty years now and still enjoying it !! Whilst I agree it’s nice to have a few challenging jobs it’s also handy to have few fan oven elements to keep things moving on a busy day

It’s official, The new Transporter is officially called the ‘T7 Transporter’…….

A very good friend of mine, high up in the fleet market, went to the launch of the ‘Ford Transporter’ today in Amsterdam. He’s confirmed it’s a rebadged Ford transit, as we thought so unfortunately - no secret VW projects out there. It is with Ford running gear etc. Due to be released very late 2024 or early 2025. Still lots of VW re-working to come- apparently there is a team at VW head office Uk working on the UK specific models. It’s sad times for VW for sure, but let’s be positive, and I have no doubt it will drive better, have more standard kit and be more advanced- it’s just the build quality we may need to question, and the fact Ford are building it! Apparently there will be. Caravelle version which has been seen. There are no photos etc, as all had to be surrendered but I’m sure within the next few days we will have full info.
He has driven the new Ford transit at its fleet launch and said it’s the best driving van on the market, and the build quality is very good, so this is good news.

We will have one of the first New transits on our fleet by the end of the year , so we can start work on suspension with the main manufacturers , body styling, leather, hifi and lots more- watch this space as it will all transfer over to the VW version.

However if you don’t want to miss out on the last of the T6.1’s we still have around 40 on order, including Sportlines, Highlines, panels, Kombis and 4Motions.

If the new Frankenporter has a wet belt then I’ll be grabbing the last of the T6.1 4-Motions.

The new Amarok looks great, shame that V6 won’t make it into a van.

Think what the genuine transporters will change hands for when the penny drops they are no more.
At least the sale of petrol and diesel has been pushed back 5 years, and after that we can still drive them for years, and after that ill hopefully be dead before the sterile electric world is rammed down our throats.

Would we all "feel" better if the roles were swapped.i.e Ford build the Caddy leaving VW to build the Transporter/Transit

Curious about the infotainment as the VW Cadddy/Tourneo one provided by VW is dire
