VW closes T6.1 order book today (3/3/23) !!!! - T7 Next? or T8?

Didn’t VHS win over Betamax only because the porn industry backed VHS? If only Pornhub backed EV and it’ll be a done deal
Nah - JVC developed VHS without patents, allowing other manufacturers to develop compatible products and drive down prices. Sony developed Betamax and tried to keep it all for themselves. The rest is history.

Sorry, yes that’s the one.
He’s got an awesome car collection
Totally awesome! He seems to have vanished off-line the last couple of years which is a crying shame as there's a lot of people who miss following his adventures with motoring!!

VHS became the dominant analogue consumer video recording standard because its inventors, JVC, decided to license it to other manufacturers at relatively low cost. Sony, along with Phillips and Grundig, took a different approach with their systems (respectively Betamax and Video 2000) and never licensed their consumer systems to other manufacturers. Whilst the Phillips/Grundig Video 2000 system never gained any traction in either the consumer or professional markets, Sony’s technically superior Betamax system morphed into the de facto professional 1/2” video recording standard called Betacam SP that was used globally by TV broadcasters and production companies for electronic news gathering (ENG) and electronic film production (EFP) In the 80s and 90s. This in turn evolved into Digital Betacam that was used well into the 2000s. Ironically Sony licensed their professional format to all the manufacturers of broadcast TV equipment (including JVC) and made a shed load of cash doing so.

Was looking at the T7 interior. Seats on Rails great but the seatbelts for the outer seats are on the B and C pillars, really limiting where they can go.

Why can't all seats have the belt in the seat (like the middle ones) thus exploiting maximum flexibility

Like the old Caravelles you mean? I wonder who used to make them? Oh it was VW wasn't it? Now why don't we build on our successes and learn from our mistakes then VW??!!

Never became acquainted with a Caravelle sadly

There is a new YT video from Ford re the 24’ Transit Custom which mentions many variations in AWD 8speed auto Kombis etc.

I wonder how close this is to a T8 (or whatever it is to be called)

It’s near the end of the vid which is most interesting on the different specs & options etc after all the marketing & App/Web connected fleet marketing BS!

I think your probably looking at it, albeit with a different badge and external plastic trims

One thing i find interesting is several options that have never been an option on transits but have been on transporters have appeared, like electric sliders and wireless charging etc

I like that folding steering wheel and the full electric van with 200+ mile range is interesting !

The ‘options’ you state pricked my ears for the same reason thinking they had been morphed from transporters.

Also the actually finally daily practicable EV range, if only for more short/medium distances rather than the current offerings

I’m with you on the cosmetic changes & VW badge as I mentioned on another thread. In a similar way to the new Caddy & Amorok.

T8. - you are all reading it different to me, I think there is something missing from T8, I think it is not an 8 and is actually the letter b and it should read

TBC ;)
